Title: X-52
Post by: noman on April 28, 2009, 12:29:10 PM
I am currently on my second x-52 first 1 lasting over 3 years instead of buying a ch i got 2 second 1 on clearnce when circuit city was closing. In the past week the auto-climb and auto-take-off turn off. I have adjusted the dead-band on the aileron because when auto-climb kicks off plane rolls to the left. This has not worked any ideas will be helpful.

Serves you right for buying Saitek junk.... :rofl :rofl :rofl

No seriously..., it used to happen to me also at the beginning. Make sure the joystick is perfectly calibrated in windows as well as in the game. This has to be done the right way. Pay attention to raw input values and centering. You should not need any deadband adjustment for aileron or elevator outside of what it's built into the game if the joystick is working ok. Twisty joystick as rudder needs a bit of deadband since it tends to cause involuntary yaw inputs while using x, y inputs. I would turn combat trim on while normal flying (its good to have a toggle button assigned). If engaging, I use manual trim (elevator and aileron, yaw is optional and can be assigned to keyboard). That also needs button assignments. If that doesn't work, get a CH.. :D

My humble 2 cents.

I agree with Warmongo's suggestions, however, if it starts acting crazy while you are on auto level/auto climb, just try unplugging your Saitek USB for a couple seconds, then plug it back in.  Mine does that sometimes.  It will work good for a long time, but every once in a while the plane will start to act as though I'm turning with the stick.  That of course is going to turn off Auto anything.
I've seen quite a few people with this problem and that's how they 'temporarily' solved it.

one thing to try. The software doesnt seem to work too well in AH. If you downloaded the software that came with it, uninstall it all. And leave it out. I have an x52 and I just plugged it in and played AH, and I dont have any of those probs. 2 of my squaddies had that problem, until they unistalled the software. Everything is full of rich creamy goodness now.

Last, X-52's are power hungry. Are you running it off of a powered USB hub? Or straight off the computer?

Personally I do not use the saitek software, it takes away more then it offers in my opinion, at least in AH. I have a similar issue as well, about every 3 weeks or so my stick just goes totally wack! I just unplug it, recalibrate in AH, and its all fine and dandy again.

With my issue I have check windows calibration and never once, that I have found anyways, has it been out of calibration. I just deal with it for now. Next stick will be CH for sure.

Pretty common problem with the X52... I stopped using the profiling software (and set the stick up directly in AH) and the problem pretty much stopped.

I forgot about that, the software that comes with the X-52 is outdated.  If he chooses to use the software, I would highly recommend downloading the updated drivers & software from Saitek.

First i am not using a powered usb hub it's straight off the computer. Did unplug it and plugged back in it seemed to help last night. Will try uninstalling the hardware it's worthless imo. Maybe i'll just slam it on the floor so my wife will let me buy a ch that would be best  :D. thanks for the help guys  :salute

as stated above, the X52 is a power pig - buy a usb POWERED hub and take the load off your motherboard.
also uninstall the saitek sst software or whatever the call it now and program your stick in AH.
I have had the X series from saitek since the old game port X-36 back in the nineties.
If that doesn't fix it, you got a lemon.

Last, just because the plane rolls to the left doesn't mean its the roll axis spiking!

Torque will roll you left regardless of which axis it is.

In Aces High, esc, options, controls, map controllers, highlight one axis at a time, click advanced.
Watch the raw and scaled data. Start with very minor wiggles in the center slop, and slowly work the stick more and more. If you see a SPIKE you've probably found your axis.

If not go on to the next.

If it happens near the center, just add a bit of deadband.
If deadband is set correctly you should be able to "Twirl" the stick in the center slop area, without seeing a spike in the raw data. Yet once you push the stick into the spring, you should have input.
