So there I am today, sitting on the lawn at camp, drinking a beer. I keep hearing aircraft around, but with low clouds, I figured I won't see anything, so I didn't look. Then a C-130 comes in from over the hill behind me so low that I could smell his exhaust, then cranks into a bank so tight that I can see the top of the plane in a full planform and flies just as low back through his exhaust trail. Then he circles for about 5 minutes before I see a State Police chopper come in from the same direction even lower (could hear the whirring blades, not just the thump), banks back around and also starts circling. Then the sirens start.
Go inside, turn on the scanner, and I hear State Police, Medical Responders and Fire Dept., all going absolutely batnoodles. Within about ten minutes, I see the fire trucks leaving again, and hear the State Police calm down- and ask for the coroner.
Pilot (whos name hasn't been released yet) took off yesterday from Norwich, NY and never arrived at his destination. FAA reported him missing last night. State Police and ANG found him at about 2pm this afternoon in the town of Eaton, just off Westcot Road between Hatch Lake and Bradley Brook Reservoir. No details have yet been released.
Condolences to the family, and heres hoping that whatever happened was quick, and he didn't suffer or think he was gonna make it before the crash. :salute
State Police say that the wreckage is so bad that they can't even tell what kind of aircraft it is.

"MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man from Canada has died in a plane crash in Madison County. The plane was found Tuesday afternoon just off of Westcott Road in the Town of Eaton near Hatch Lake.
State police say Bernard Laferriere, 56, from the province of Quebec, died in the crash. He took off from Norwich late Monday afternoon in his small EcoFlyer. State police say he was headed back to Canada, but never made it.
The owner of the property in the Town of Eaton found the wreckage about two miles from the roadway. He says he was on his four-wheeler when he saw what looked like a tent, until he got closer.
The FAA is working with police to determine what caused the crash."
From the local news.
And this is the type of aircraft he was flying.
