For the 2nd time in a month I have seen yet another whiner labeled as a sniviling kid who has nothing better to do than whine. What? Are we all to assume that every single teenager in the AH universe is nothing but a trouble maker? Are we to assume that this game isn't ment for teenagers or kids? You do realize that not all of the teenagers in the MA are immature little brats? I was once refused access to a squad because they thought I wasn't mature enough and all I would do is cause trouble. I for one am tired of getting labeled as an immature person only because I am 16. I am pretty sure there are others here in the same boat. I am sure others have been kicked from squads on basis of age. I'm sure others have been chastized in the MA for their age.
When will it end? Why is it that us teenagers are always pushed around? Last I checked this wasn't just an adults game (maybe if you want to get into one of the FBD's latrine parties, but that is different. :) ) I for one am tired of being called immature just because of my age. I have seen plenty of adults who are more immature than I could ever be.

They're jealous that the cynical world has made them complacent
-
I don't think all of us do, I invited a fellow named "Oct" onto my squadron about a year ago..this guy was a team player. He's now a Major of one of the flights we have in VMF-323...for the longest time I *thought* of him as, 25-35...turns out he's in (or was when i recruited him) in highschool! Attitude is 90% of presentation!
-
That's interesting Rip. I remember the look on your face the first time you met me... you thought I was 16 LOL!!

The attitude of a few dictates the classification of many.
-
Mark You lied to us LOL.
The 56th does not age discriminate.
-
I've never asked someone's age when asking them to join our squadron - and there are still a few of them who I have no idea what their age is, but of those I do know, we range from me, the young'n at 25, to a couple guys that are 40 - 50... it is attitude and shared interest that we have in common - and we have a great time. The internet can eliminate alot of those social distinctions - which is cool, because it gives people the opportunity to be who they are, and not what they are - age aside, how you act is how you are perceived.

That was a case of mistaken "handle" identity, nothing to do with your personality. hehe.!
-
Semperfi, all the guys I've seen get called those things have earned it.
Northolt Wing does not age-discriminate. We have had three high-schoolers in our ranks at one time or another.
-
Um. hormones and experience. Like any community, this one has unwritten rules of socialization. Experience in similar situations give the older folks more of an edge (maturity). Lack of hormone overload also means we have the ability to keep our mouth shut until we determine what those rules are. And, yeah, nobody gets it perfectly, and some folks never get it. But that's why younger members get labelled as immature. Most of them either learn pretty quick or leave. Unfortunately, some of them stay that way until retirement.

Because all the adults acting like children gave the teenagers a bad rep.

I wish I was a teenager again... I'd of dated all those "unpopular" chicks that are now pretty damn good looking.

texace, immature is not a bad thing. It is a simple fact of life. Some do use it in the context of reflecting negative ideas towards people, and this is just a misuse of the word.
Maturity comes from life experiences, which can only really be had with time.
I know a lot of young people I have more respect for than thier older counterparts. The generalization that all young people act badly, which is what we are really talking about, is just that, a generalization.
The key component is respect. Respect is either shown or not shown. This is irregardless of age. Everyone has thier own ideas about it. I will always show respect to others until someone gives me a reason not to respect them, then I usually just leave them be, as I reallly do not like people that cannot show respect to others.
Sometimes, as you get older, you can learn to respect others,..then there are those that never get it. Some are taught, like me, to have respect for others from the beginning of memory.
Virtually all generations go through what you are talking about. I think most of us went through a period in our youth where we thought we knew it all. You really do not realize how little you know until you get older and look back. It is human nature.
Just remember, respect can be given, but then has to be kept. The latter is the tough part. Do not worry about what generalizations are made about young people. If you do not fit those, then it will show on its own.

Our squad doesn't descriminate based on age, rather one's ability to avoid being struck by a car. That's why the AKs think your imature.
Once you've matured, you may still be struck by cars... but it won't be because you couldn't get away... it will be because you seriously believed you could take it in a fair fight.

I know that age has been a concern when someone wants to join our squadron. The thing is it has had nothing to do with maturity or trouble.
The reason its been a question has been due to Guys post things like adult jokes and questionable langauge in our private forum. Also our yearly gatherings can be a bit more adult oriented.
Now I wouldnt say most guys at 16 cant deal with that stuff, but it could be an issue with some parents. As a Squad we just havent wanted to take that on.
A while back me and the CO talked about a CAF JR. squad for youths, but we just didnt see the need.
The Reason I bring it up is, refusal into a squad based on age, might have other reasons than being Mature.
As for Youths and Young adults, Its just a matter of treating them with respect, at the same time realising they are still growing. I have great raport with teens and enjoy them alot. Im over 40 now, but relate well with the younger adults. Funny thing, they all seem to enjoy me and treat me with that same respect.
A do see your Frustration of being labeled as imature. Dont let it get to you, and always treat others with respect, be forgiving and generous. Follow those guides and you always do fine.

If age < cMature then
immature
else
mature
We let one of these young yahoos into the assassins.
Now we get to listen to things like
"fatt kill dude"
and
"109s are old school gramps"
and they make fun of your handle too.
They might for instance call you
pongholeio instead of your real handle..
We shold just ban the wippersnappers from the game!

If a Squad doesn't accept you because of you'r age, you're better off in anotehr squad anyway, lots of great squads out there who are all willing to accept people, no matter 5 years old or 100 years old, no offence to those who are sub 5 or more then 100, but I doubt they'd make very good pilots ;)
I've flown online sims (staarted out H2H for 2 years) since I was 13, have heard quite a few funny comments since :)

It's only cause us old farts are mad that Youth is wasted on the young.

Texace,
Skuzzy summed it up pretty well, I'll just add this:
Everyone should be judged upon their conduct rather than age. If you are knocked back by a squad because of your age before you get a chance to show your maturity to them, you don't want to hang with those guys anyway. Online your only personality is that presented by what you type (or say over RW) so age should not be an issue... your conduct however is.
Chin up and watch out for those cars bud!
P.S. Note my use of the word "hang". See I'm still hip, I'm still with it... [insert macarena music here]

If you wouldn't have told me your are 16, I wouldn't have known.
That is the mistery about internet contact. Your are treated in accordance with the way you present yourself.

Skuzzy & BlueMako have it right.
The 332nd Flying Mongrels have had some very young teenagers in our ranks. Great team players full of good ideas. Guys like BeTown, & Wilbuz come to mind.
Others have not made it in not because of age but rather attitude & how they treat others.
In this community for the most part it's not your age that matters. How you treat others and how you deal with problems are much more important.
-
it's not that you're a teenager texace... it's cause you fly fluffs.
The BK's discriminate against everyone.... we have even changed peoples names on occassion.

LOL saw!!! Maybe I should advertise my age more often just to tick ya off ;). and I agree 100% Ghosth!
-
Personaly I never gave a rats bellybutton about age.Weve got plenty in here that are "OF" age and need to grow the hell up.From Shanes persistant "You warped you cheater" to Gunmans insessant squeaking both, after being bested for whatever reason.I find that if someone beats you fairly and you say "nice fight" as opossed to formentioned maggots blameing everything in the arena but there ability then your age isnt an issue.Unfortunatly alot of the attitude comes from kids useing daddys aol account.Rise above the muck I say.Let the planes do the talking and when your plane stutters?Let the other pilot know he flew well.
-
Heh Oct, I wasn't speaking for myself, I hate em all who shoot me down, be it a young lad or an old lady :D
-

Immature people have small members Texace. TIS A PROVEN FACT>
-
I agree 100% texace. We often get the short end of the stick - anywhere from people assuming that because we are young our manners, presentation, etc. are all poor, to deciding that because we are young we have nothing worthwhile to say. I can't begin to count the number of times that I've been told (to paraphrase) that when I get old and cynical, I'll see and agree with some pessimistic right-winger's viewpoint. That's just an example, mind you - but that kind of condescension is very wearing after a while.
I now NEVER share my age online, unless specifically asked. Too many people decide that presenter qualifies the presentation, not the other way around.
-
Apar, you just illustrated my point perfectly. :)
I'ts been my pleasure to know & fly with Wilbuz for 5 years. He just turned 18. <S> & Happy Birthday Bro!
It's not the age its the attitude.
It's not the plane it's the pilot.
