Was painting the baseboard in my bedroom and accidently put my pant leg on the paint lid. In my hurry to get my pants off before I smeared paint everywhere I through them in the washer. Doh!!
Now I need a new cell phone. Any suggestions for a good inexpensive phone?

Leave it to dry out GB, you never know with cell phones mate.......

Yes, I will see what tomorrow brings. Dead right now. Took the batter and memory out.

Throw it in a bag of rice. If it was off when it went through the wash, there is a very small chance it may still work. If not, who is your carrier?

AT&T and it was on. Don't have any rice. Like the idea though.

Try opening it up, grab an old toothbrush and some rubbing alcohol. Remove any visible water damage. Wait a few minutes before putting it back together. Worth a try as it's worked a few times for me with electronic devices.
Good luck.

Remove the battery and put it on a cookie sheet in your oven on the absolute lowest setting for four hours.

Rice and putting it in the oven for 4 hours?
Steamed phone rice ball :)
Actually only one I heard was to open it up and let it air dry

When I first bought my boat my family and I went out to the river and the boat stalled out and would not restart. When it started to hit the rocks on the shore I quickly jumped in forgetting that my cell was in my back pocket. I was in the water for about 20-30 minutes walking the boat up the shore to the launch. The phone was so full of water that the display had an air pocket in it the size of a pin head. That's right the entire display was full of water except for that one pocket of air.
I took the battery out and placed the phone over the pilot light on my stove, staddling it across the burners to keep it from getting too hot. I left it there for a couple of days before trying it again.
My point don't give up on it yet and you might want to give it a couple of days before even trying it.
BTW I am still using my to this day with no signs of any problems from my phone or the swim it took with me.

Mine went to the bottom of a swimming pool.
I think txdad just opened the whole thing, took out battery & sim card. Then once they dried out completely it worked again.
Then another time something else happened (maybe washing machine that time), took the sim card out & stuck that into in a $10.00 go phone & was all set.

Anything from Samsung. Mine went through the wash and still worked after I let it dry out for a couple days. My wife has had the same Samsung for years. Their stuff just seems to be built tough.
I'm not into super fancy stuff. To me a phone is for making phone calls.

Okay, went with this and and and It's working. Whew!!! Felt naked.

This works for all AT&T phones. I jump in the pool alot with my clothes on and never take my cell phone out. I came up with a inexpensive way to keep replacing my phone. I have AT&T thankfully I can switch my sim card out into other AT&T phones. I just go buy a go phone and put my sim card in it and they work fine. The good thing in doing that is it doesn't act like a go phone. I have my monthly service the only thing that changes is the phone. So far I have been through 4 phones within the past two months LMAO one day I will learn.

Oh, that is cool!

Glad you got your phone working, if you ever have to do what I post make sure it is an AT&T go phone.

Yes, I have an AT&T phone.
Have a question for anyone. Can I download all my contacts from my phone to my computer?

Put your cell phone in a pillow case, go out on the front yard, swing it over your head and scream like a chicken. Don't know if it will fix it, but the neighbors will be amused, and you will be paying homage to Dick VanDyke.

Another trick you can use (IDK if it's been mentioned) is take the battery out and put everything in a Bag of rice. We've done this several times and it works.
Glad to know the oven works too!

Welp, it worked at first. I even made a call. However on the second attempt it didn't. So it's back in the oven. LOL
-
Okay, got it working again and just for good measure I put it in some rice my mom gave me. (Crosses Fingers)

I know someone who dropped their blackberry into muddy water (like saturated with mud :uhoh ) and it worked later. (Don't know what he did to get it to work.)

lol You actually went with the oven option and it worked? I thought the suggestion was just a joke. Careful you don't melt anything. :lol

:rofl :rofl :rofl What did I have to lose. I turned it down to 170 degrees. Last night I set in a bag of rice. It seems to working now.

Bag O Rice does the trick :aok

A few years back, mine (Alltell) went thru a complete cycle in the washing machine one time. Put it in the car with the windows rolled up w/o the battery for a day, and it mostly worked fine after that.

Rice = Wunder-drying agent. I've used it for everything from soaked electronics to a damp corner of the room. (from a roof leak) Something with the molecular compounds in it make it suck up ALL the moisture around it, with the quickness.

If you come down here the first thing you will notice in the restaurants is that the salt shaker is comprised of 3/4 salt, 1/4 rice. It is so humid here that it is the only way to keep the salt from getting all gummed up in the shakers.

It's dead Jim. Apparently it couldn't handle the pressure of a front loader. Purchased new phone today. :furious

How did that happen?

How did that happen?
Left it pants that had paint. Then put it in a front load washer that spins really really fast.

I was thinking of a different front loader then :D

Yeah! I realized that half way through my typing.
I splurged btw on the phone. Stupid me. But but it was shiny and bright, with bells and whistles. I went in to just get a regular ol phone and ended purchasing an iPhone 3g. My gawd what can that thing not do!

Nice! I wanted the tundra but would have had to go to another carrier. I got talked into the iPhone. Although it wasn't hard. :rofl :rofl

My phone has a 16 gig sim card.
I bought a new Memoir about 2 months a go and within 4 days I lost it in the back of my shop and one of the guys ran over it on one of the forklifts. I had insurance but it still cost me $130 to get it replaced. Still cheaper than the $499 it would have been. Just pulled the card and put it into the new one.

Hardly surprising as to cook rice you add twice the water as you have rice ;)
