i have 30+ now and i dont know why i dont go to them BAD sites or open emails from ppl i do not know... my AVG8.5 Dosnt remove them and the avg8.0 crashes if it trys.. i need some thing free that will do the job and remove all the viruses
-
Partition and format Hard drive, reinstall OS, drivers, software.
Very very tough once its fully loaded in to get it all.
Threatfire (google it) will help keep you from getting infected again.
-
only problem with that i dont have a OS never came with the pc i have.. i whould have to buy a new one *vista* and i dont have the cash atm
-
You do not have to go to "bad" sites to get a virus these days. Any ole Windows based server can deliver many of the viruses available today. Many of the delivery sites have no idea they are infecting computers.
As long as you have "ActiveX" enabled in your "Internet Options" you are at risk, whether it is email or WEB or any other service (iTunes, facebook, myspace, acrobat, twitter....).
Good luck in getting it cleaned up. My Wife's computer gets infected at least once a week. I typically just wipe her system out and re-install the OS once to twice a month. Easier than trying to fight the viruses and the mess they leave behind.
Without the OS installation CD, you are pretty much going to be screwed in the long run.
-
looks like ill be buying a new OS then...
-
Try running "housecall" while in safe mode with network. It'll usually remove enough of the virus for AVG to be able to run and clean up the rest. Try running AVG in safe mode too, but only after turning off System Restore and deleting all of the restore points.
-
Download Avast, It will clean in Dos mode before anything is loaded. My neighbor had 1700 infections and it took them off. Stay away from porn sites should that be the case or any free music.

I'd recommend looking at the windows 7 thread, it runs better then Vista IMO and is free till March 2010 or beyond.

Sounds like a worthy solution.

Don't many commercial computers that don't ship with OS CDs have a hidden partition or something on the hard drive for reinstalling the OS? I know Dells used to have a hidden program called zztop that would reinitialize the hard drive. In other words, don't give up yet- look at the info that came with the computer for reinitialization procedures. Worth a try.

If he can get drivers for all his hardware for Windows 7, it would be better than running a virus plagued system.

I'm amazed so far, I've loaded it on two legacy systems (circa 2002-2004) and it not only autoloaded drivers for everything it runs better then either vista or XP on a "lowend" system (AMD athlons with 1G of ram). On a whim I loaded it on my laptop (Toshiba R15 sat) {I've always hated the thing since its so bogged down with add on crap} and it not only loaded everything driver wise but it runs every business ap (you can run anything that runs on any version of windows in a compatability mode). Basically it's windows meets linux IMO....I've got it on this box as a 4th OS and it runs AH/trackIR better then Vista and almost as well as XP IMO.

I'd check into what 715 posted above, about your pre-installed OS having a back-up partition on the HD.........
also, as Skuzzy posted, Windows 7 being just released for public beta.......some hardware, software may have driver issues...alot of people been having some luck using "their vista drivers" in these instances........also you can do a search ( google ) for Drivers or modded drivers for your particular Hardware/software to work with Windows 7.........
I know I went and searched/collected alot of my needed drivers before I even thought of installing Windows 7 RC 64 bit.....
those PC geeks are pretty quick when figuring out workable solutions for new OS / Driver issues....... just check & read the Windows 7 forums ( several of them out there on the web )
Also, if you get one of them nasty Virus' , that is loaded into your memory......it really doesn't matter what you do to try and get rid of it..........BUT- Trojan Remover (whatever the new version is # wise ) is pretty awesome in swiping one of these nasty viruses
Good Luck
edited: agree with humble ......most of my stuff picked right up...I have not installed Aces High yet, though.....but prob will since you say it is working for you.....( will Aces high work on a 64 bit OS? )

Just be careful with this option. Once March 2010 rolls around, Windows 7RC will "expire", and currently has not been announced as upgradable, meaning that when it "expires" you won't be able to use it (last I heard was an automatic shutdown every 2 hours), and the only way to fix that problem is to format the hard drive anyway.

This is false information. Windows 7 RC will be upgradeable normally _untill_ it expires. It means that if you continue to use it without buying the legal license after the expiration date, then you'll be forced to reinstall completely. Even then you wont need to format anything else except the partition where your OS is located at (we all keep a separated partition for the OS just for this purpose, right?)
-
The issue at hand is simple, if he cant find a copy of his OS (normally your boot screen will have a "press F10 for recovery" option or something similar) then he either buys XP or Vista now or Windows 7 later. Since he doesn't have the money now and windows 7 is available he gets a temporary OS and doesnt have to buy an OS thats going to be replaced soon anyway.
The other option is a linux OS (I'm using mint right now) but that wont support AH without a lot of tweaking.

well, I put my "test OS software" on it's own partition..yes thought that is how it suppose to be done
and , Windows RC 7 starts "Warning" in MArch 2010 with its autoshutdown every 2 hours.......it actually Expires in June 2010........this expiration, I assume is the beta License Key.........my thoughts anyhows........
and yes you should leave your Windows 7 "automatic windows updates" turned on.......... so it can update

Looks like there is a gaggle of removal tools out there for winibluesotf, a trojan that leads you to believe it's a spyware remover. Do a google search.

there is nothing found by google

Once again, a system with AVG Free gets totally owned by viruses.
If you insist on free AV software, Avria's AntiVir product is the one to get.
If you aren't an expert in Virus removal, then a clean restart is probably a good idea, and Windows 7 even in RC form is probably a better option than Vista at this point.
If I were you, I would probably pony up $40 for Norton AV 2009 and then be prepared to call their techs for help in letting NAV clear things out before going through all the effort of reloading the OS from scratch. This assumes you aren't a computer-guy, so to speak.
I would also stop using Microsoft-based internet products on a regular basis. This means using Firefox, Safari, Opera, or Chrome for as much web surfing as you can. For mail, try Thunderbird or Opera or something like The Bat, or stick solely with webmail like Gmail.

What is it you recommend Llama, Nod360?
-

MrMeanie........you got yourself one of them nasty Trojans.........that is redirecting or ignoring everything you search for.....
you still have a few options..but to click and paste or click on already saved links prob not gonna help ya...typing stuff in the URL bar manually might work?
the virus has hidden itself in a few different areas.possibly even in your memory.so everytime you reboot.it loads up before any Anti-Virus SW can help ya......
you probally gonna need to clean your registry as well..these viruses can write themselves into the registry then hide or lock itself to where it is damned near impossible to eradicate........
Llama gave you some good advice.......although I prefer my ESET Smart Security 4 over Norton..although reports say this Newest Norton2009 Llama recommends has alot less bloat than the other past versions....
-
i do have the registry mechanic
-
it seems my system is clean agian every thing that was posted here.. worked no sign of the trojan on any scan.. i can google it now i dont get low memoey or that popup that says buy it

I wouldn't use that system for anything personal (banking online etc.) untill it's formatted. The worst viruses are the ones that give no clue about their existence - they just sniff your traffic and send all the valuable information to bad guys.
-
i tend to like malwarebyte anti-malware to do removing in conjuntion with spybot search and destroy.
once i have clean system AVG with spybot S&D do really well for me in keeping unwanted things out.

I agree, MrRiplEy, unless you done ya research and KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT, you got it completely cleaned......
is why I kept saying to make sure ya memory is washed/cleaned/swiped
and use something like Trojan Remover ----> their website ---> http://www.simplysup.com/
and then to check ya registry ( CLean it/scrub it ie...use something like "RegScrubXP v3.** Registry Cleaner" note* not sure it works on vista, but something similar to this for Vista perhaps )
I am not to sure about "Registry Mechanic" these days....have used it long ago.but have learned alot on this forum since then.....
when its a nast virus/trojan/malware etc...and it hides itself like you mentioned and takes over your internet connection/or redirects you to where it wants too.....then you better be dang sure you are really clean.......
edit: I am not saying you need to use those exact programs I listed. but to use programs similar to them that work like they do and come with good recommendations / reports from users ( or ie....computer geeks rofl )
seriously though..wish ya the best of luck......

Cept these are susceptible as well, plus they all have their issues (Chrome and Safari are particularly odd sometimes).
You want to know what really nukes web born virus's... block advertising.

The main reason I recommended NAV2009 in this case was Symantec's tech support. They WILL spend an inordinate amount of time on the phone with you to get NAV installed and scanning and cleaning. The NAV install disc is also a self-booting virus-scanning disc, and is invaluable when dealing in an already-infected system.
If a system is already pretty clean and you just want to protect new nasties from coming in, or if you already know what you're doing when it comes to cleaning out an owned system, then I recommend Eset's NOD32. Their tech support isn't as good, IMHO.
If you're looking for a full suite, both ESET Smart Security and Norton Internet Security 2009 are the ones. Eset SS is leaner and meaner, while NIS gives you a lot more security tools while still managing to stay out of your face. As it happens, NIS is cheaper. As I've posted earlier, both have essentially the same gaming benchmarks on modern systems.
Both have good detection rates, and both have great "smarts." That is, they automatically go into "game mode" when full-screen programs are running (so they won't run full scans or get updates while a game is playing), they both take the appropriate action to viruses automatically without asking you a lot of stupid questions (do you really want to save a detected virus? only if you're a researcher like me), and both have firewalls that automatically know about thousands of "Good" software that it shouldn't interfere with. In other words, AH just works without the firewall prompting you to ask if it should let AH connect to the Internet. All of the free products will interrupt you to ask you idiotic questions like this.

I agree that ESET's support leaves a lot to be desired. But IMHO the Smart Suite or NOD32 is a far better product then anything Symantec puts out.

If you're able to qualify that statement, I'm all ears. I'm talking about the "far better" part.
Don't get me wrong - ESET's products are what's on my wife's machine - but I can qualify the reasons why and none of them involve the term "far better."
