Title: What About A NEW tank?(what do you think)
Post by: brady on October 29, 2000, 10:59:00 AM
The Pzkfw IVH in the game was a good choice to ad for a German tank.(at least game wise) I lacked the armor and firepower of the the German "cats" but mounted with the very effective 7.5cm kwk L48 gun which was quite capable of dealing with the M4's,and the run of the mill T-34, also the armor on the IVH was comparable to that on the Sherman, and while not as good as that on the T-34 the T34 had a weaker gun(at least some of them did).
So in a round about way i am saying AH could add a:
   M4A1 (maybe a M4A3)
   T34/76

Actually the M4A2's and M4A3's have better armor then the Pz IV series.

The T-34's had about the same as the M4's but much more effective sloping angles.

The M4A3E2 has even more armor then the Panther (and is right up there with the King Tiger when hull down, it has 6 inch cast turrent!)

I'd say T-34/85 and either the M4A3E8 or the
M4A3-76.

I think Pyro said they already have plans for the e8 though. Dunno if it will be 75mm or 76mm tho

Wouldn't the Easy Eight be quite superior to the T-34/85 and Pz IV when equipped with the high velocity 76 gun?

The T-34 might have an edge in what comes to armor and speed but the M4 takes it back in the superior ballistics of the gun and the limited ability to shoot on the move. The Pz IV only has it's superior optics to rely on.

This is obviously valid only in real life terrain and I think that the large flat areas of Aces High would probably benefit the Pz IV most if it's better chance to hit things is modelled somehow.

How about modelling the Jumbo Sherman instead? Shouldn't it be able to take a shot from the German 75mm gun or the Russian 85mm gun head on (and not be knocked out)? And besides, it looks more groovy than other Shermans  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).

Why not model the typical vehicles used in mid 44 so that the historical relations between the counties are represented.
Ie
T34-85(armour like m4a3 gun like Pnz IV h, faster then both. No anti air mg.
M4A375(Weakest gun vs amrour, best vs infantry. Bit slower then T34 same protection. 50call AAMG.
And of course our Panzer ivh. Good gun weak armour slow but some AAMG.

Dont know how you would improve on that. If you use the t34 76 and the M4A3E8(76) you end up with the rediculous impression that the americans had the best armour in the late war. And that is silly.
This lets us have a good perk or two for each country. Panther, Jadgpanther, Jumbo(76), M4a3(105), Is2m, Is122 all on 3 new chasis..minimum artwork.

Well, the best choice for the _next_ tank modelled would still be the sherman. There's so many variants that can be modelled on that one chassi, much like the Pz IV actually  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).

T34- 76?? Wasn't that the one influenced by the FW-190?

Well gent's the tube on the Sherman was about equal to the one on the IVH(76mm not the 75) and armor wise i was not referring to the M4A3E8 a slightly earlier variant would be a bit more balanced, since their tubes are about equal when firing standard
AP ammo the lighter armor would be better game wise, as far as the T-34 it's weaker gun and poor optics would tend to be balanced out by a slightly better armor level and greater speed.

E8 really wouldn't be uber, even with the 76mm.

Remember, only difference between the M4A3 and the M4A3E8 is the suspension system. Same armor. Slightly more turrent armor with the 76mm ring. Just a bit faster.

The 76mm ballistics (without HVAP) are not as good as the Pak 48 (magnification limitations would be needed for it and the T-34/85)

T-34/85 is till the fastest, has slightly less hull armor but sloping makes it much more effective then the e8's and a thicker turrent cast. Best gun in the HE department due to shell size.

Perks...Ya I'd say M4A3E2-76 (Jumbo). over 200 delivered after the Normandy landings, usually coloumn leaders when available. The only Sherman US crews liked  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) 6 inch cast turrent ring, nearly twice as much as the King Tiger's 80mm's. (which makes up for the sloping of the KT's turrent.) and almost as thick in the hull (again with out sloping though) Little armor in the rear. Was only slightly slower then the M4A1 Shermans, nice trade off.

Panther G, easily the king in most areas.

Soviet and British tanks all depend on what ya want. You can go with BFG types, such as the Su and Ju   (Su-152's and Ju-152s  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) )...generally fast but less armor then the IS series.

VC Firefly would be as deadly as the Panther G, but without the armor.
