Title: my bike i just finished up
Post by: mcboi on May 08, 2009, 07:03:27 PM
hey guys here are a few pics of the finished product lemme know what ya think oh and by the way thx Frenchy for the info i tried it on my bike about the masking everything off. It made clean-up real quick but took forever to mask everything off. Not sure if ima do it again it was quicker just cleaning all the residue off than to mask everything but i appreciate the info <S>

I'm surprised u tried  :salute I'm impressed. I use those big rolls of paper, or even fin painter plastic sheeting to cover the wide areas. You might be right, on a bullet bike it's quicker to clean rather than taping, on HDs and classics, with all those intricate engine fins & spoke wheels, maybe not. BTW, since we share "speed tips" : I use a leaf blower to dry the bikes once I cleaned them, works awsome :aok

The bike looks good mate, what's the name of that blue?

its a GM stock color its called "Bermuda Blue" it comes on the avalanches, denalis, ect.... its rather inexpensive around $40 a quart and it has some kind of pearl in it i forget what its called that makes it flip from green to blue to purple depending on the lighting

That's not a Yamaha, it's a Kawi. Looks like one of the 6Rs from a couple of years back.

I'd love to own a bike one day if it wasn't for 2 things. A.) I'm only sitting at around 145 pounds(which seems a bit light to me to control one reliably, could be wrong there).

B.) I'm pretty confident I'd wrap myself around a tree one one due largely to point A.

That thing is gorgeous though. Nice work!

thanks everyone for the positive comments believe it or not this is only the 4th bike ive painted ever!!! when i say bike i mean anything i have not painted any cars yet but that will come soon (my dad has a '68 Mustang he's had since he was 16 he is 47 now) i will restore my dad's car w/ him because he sacrificed that car for his family so i feel i need to help him get it going, now that us "kids" are gone  :)

anyway toof you'd be alright my girl weighs 125 and she wants to get a bike just like mine, but at least she is smart because she will not ride one w/o training when you ride its not usaually you that will kill yourself its the other ppl around just respect the machine and its power and you will be fine/ plus the feeling is like none other when your on it  :rock

that color would look nice on a 68 mustang IMO.  Not really into bikes, but Im sure I will be 1 day. Seen afew drag on speed channel. 1/4 mile 6-7 seconds I think dang. Nice job. My jeep is just a tad darker blue then that. I like a metallic silver color also. Don't know what its called. cool bike. :aok

I've had no problem with fast cars. First car my dad ever bought me was an 87' Mustang foxback 5.0...learned to drive a stick on that beast. 16 behind the wheel of that, + the tickets I garnered = pops put me in a Camry, lol. I love bikes, don't think I'm confident enough (training might fix that) to get behind the (2) wheels of one.

Toof - hook up with a local Motorcycle Safety Foundation class and go from there.   I don't see any reason a 145lber can't safey handle a middleweight bike.

I started on a Kawi 550 and really enjoyed it.    Had a CBR600 for a few years after that and still miss it.

Yes they are.

However, the 10R 04' motor has more power and a slightly more vicious power curve, Kwack lessened the top end tuning in 05' cos too many noobs were flipping them.  Also, get yourself a power commander and remove the speed limiter in the software or it'll run out of puff at 186mph.

here's a question to kick around for discussion.

On a certain other BBS the statement has been made that a single front brake disc is enough for any bike and bikes with twin discs (like mine) spit riders off over the handlebars.

I disagree.

Awesome job on the bike.  My 07 ZX-14 is in the garage right now needing a new body....gravel+rear tire+ditch=disaster.  That's a nice color too, I was looking at something like that or a polished metal look to go on it now.

horse twaddle
I rode a Buell xb12r for 20 mins on a racetrack at racetrack speeds, this bike only has one (huge) front disc with a radially mounted calliper. This bike had serious stopping power. Way more effective than my gsxr 750 which was supposed to be a production superbike just like Matt Mladins, but seriously if anyone gets thrown over the bars under front brakes they should just stop riding, period, they are not very good at controling their vehicle.
