he is a 6 week old pitty/bull masstive puppy :)
i wanted a cool name that no one else would ever think of, with a little help from coprhead aka 5pointOh, he suggested "stuka". i LUV'd the name so he is stuck with it.
-
Wow, with that combination, he could be huge. Nice. :aok

A real cutie Betty. Congrat's Stuka!

Nice mutt Betty!!
the PB bull mastif cross is known as an american banddogge! common crosses are male pitbull with female Bull mastif,Neomastif and english mastif.Although other crosses with different breeds do occur.A vet by the name of Swinford started to develope this type of dog in the early 60's long before the pitbull was a common breed. He wanted a tough working dog that could be comanded "out" of an aggressive situation.
Stuka looks like an excellent example and you'll need to be firm with him at all times,he'll luv all the more if you are!
-
wow! cool ty for the info!
his dad is pure akc registered pitt and the mom is pitt and bull mastif. he is a VERY smart dog, for him bein 6 weeks old he has the potty training thing down pretty good so far and i have only had him since thursday night! he luvs the kids and seems to be pretty social.
i will make sure to stay firm with him..thanx again!
-
hmm did not know AKC registered pits.
Hopefully your kids will survive your choice of pet.
-
Oh shuf, comon!! I've raised bullterries for 30 years and children too.A well bred dog is no threat to children when raised with them and supervised. If the truth be know any well bred pitbull will show no human aggression whatsoever,it was in fact culled from the breed.
It's only been the past 10 or 15 years that every "tough guy" had to have 1 and that resulted in poor bredding and terrible dogs.
If Betty is firm but gentle and doesnt let "stuka" get away with stuff there is no reason she can't have a safe dog.Every puppie start out life the same it's what we as owners do or dont do that make a dog unsafe.
I said supervised for a reason, young dogs can become over sealous and unintentionally hurt a small child and no dog should be unsupervised around kids.
-
^ Voice of reason there.

Most loyal and cooperative dogs I've ever been around save a Border Collie. Now those dogs are pure genius. Porter (the pit) wasn't too happy when I cut my hair...my point with that, if you're not "family" don't go messing around with their "parents". A well trained and cared for pitbull is more alarm system than any of the major manufacturers could ever come up with. Extremely effective and doesn't go off unless absolutely necessary. As a side note, I had a friend who got his house more or less looted a few years ago. We all knew that it was someone who the dog was familiar with because there wasn't a bad guy with a dog latched to him in the house. So the dog knew the person who decided to take advantage of said friend. Hence why she didn't tear him a new one even though he was toting crap out of the house.

the puppy will be raised with my kids, being that i am a single mom with a teenage daughter, i have NO problem being firm with him. i do let my kids correct him also, they are a big part of his training because he will then grow up to respect them and protect them as he will do for me also. he will also be a social dog, one that will be great with other animals no matter how big or small.
the thing that makes me angry about "stereo typing" of pitts is that NOT all of them are mean, you dont blame the breed, you blame the owner. any dogs can be mean, no matter what breed they are, its just a matter of how they are trained.
morfiend, seriously thank you for the info, in the past i have had friends that have pitts and they was all raised with children and really well behaved dogs, i know that with his breed i have to be firm or i will lose total control over him period. my dog that i had for 14 years was samoid chow and husky, he was an awsome dog. he was my first kid. he died because of the dog food recall. he very well could have been mean also. he had a temper but knew better than to go after me, my kids were able to climb all over him like a jungle jim. i plan to train stuka the same way i did reef.

Your choice.... like I said hopefully nothing happens. If it does your dealing with an animal with a biting force of 2000 pounds. Just recently here another child was killed when 2 pits that ran in the neighborhood.... had never bothered anyone.... decided to attack. Another attack recently featured a frail little lady attacked by three of them. Granted the illigals strolling through our borders love to fight them but the ones attacking are not the ones trained to fight.
Many dogs in groups will act different so it is not necessarily just the pit. They are just better known for attacking humans.
I love dogs and lean towards sled breeds. I'm just one that would never risk having a pit. Good luck.
-
well shuffler..everyone has their choices right :)
i watch the dog whisperer, usually if there is a dog that is the alpha dog *pack leader* if you will, the others will follow. dogs dont like to attack, they rather be loved and taken care of. the other idiots that train pits to fight are the ones that are giving pits the bad rep. like i said before, you can NOT blame the breed, you have to blame the owner. any dog can be mean, hell, huskies can be mean, they are a sled dog, my samoid chow and husky TRIED once to bite me and found it was not in his better judgement.

I can understand the concern Stuka is not a first time dog owners dog.
That said, shuf, the dogs were running free correct? That is the problem, not the dogs the owners.
People who own a dog that is over 30 or 40 lbs own an animal that can do tremendous harm! I dont care what breed it is they all have teeth and can move faster than me.
Just look at dog bite stats, you'll find that the dogs that make headlines arent even in the top 10 to bite. You know"dog bites man,not news, man bites dog, thats news" well if a lab or poodle bites it doesnt make the news but every Pitbull or Rottie attack is front page.
You said yourself,so I know you understand, dog behave different in groups and what starts as a game soon turn to a blood bath. That just how they survive, cant blame them, the owners on the other hand should be punished as harshly as possible.
Betty,Stuka could very well be over 80 pounds, even 100 thats alot of dog :aok

You should introduce Stuka to Max one of these days. My evil maneating Rottweiller.
Good looking dog betty, hope you have a large pooper scooper. :D

^^^^^^^^Worth repeating^^^^^^^^ well said Morf!! :aok

Morf... the other dogs that may bite you have nowhere near the biting force of a pit. I once saw a pit bite a 4 x 4 and with a little shaking, broke it in half.
Like Betty said it is personal choice.
Harris County has a leash law for dogs and cats. None can roam freely. Many cattlemen in the area, when checking on the cows, will let a single dog roam. If they see more than one dog they will just shoot them as they are a threat to their cattle.

Cute dog Betty, looking at him i remembered what happened to my Brother in law few years ago.
He had 1 bull terrier and 1 miniature bull terrier ( i know they are not the same race, to me they look much the same) :D
Good dogs, very actives and strong...well one evening we were at a Family party at my in laws, when the Police called Lars (brother in law).
The Officer told him someone had broken in the house, before he could continue, Lars said he would be home later to check the house.
At that point the Officer said ..well we have a problem here, the thief is still in the house, actually he called us, from your bathroom, he is wounded, and scared and we too, we can hear some quiet angry dogs in the house. Could u please come and help us get some help to the thief? Lars just laughed and said ..of course. :rofl
We still tell this story to the younger in the Family. :lol
I still feel kind of sorry for that poor B.....d, going in that house with those 2 dogs. Knowing those 2 dogs, i think they letted him come in just to have fun.

What a cute puppy! :)
We own a Pitbull/Labrador Retriever mix that we saved from destruction because the previous owners didn't want her. We got her at 3 months of age and what a beautiful and intelligent puppy she was, and still is! She is six years old now, in good health, and is known by every adult and child in the neighborhood by her name, and they visit her often. We have never chained her and she resides behind the chain link fence that encompasses our yard. She has the freedom to roam the yard at will and announces the presence of the Utility Workers who enter the yard. These Utility Workers have all become a part of her family and she greets them with affection and enthusiasm.
Outside of the yard she is always leashed; unless we go to the local dog park, which we do often. There, she inter-acts with other dogs and humans very well and has fun doing so! She is intelligent and learned quickly how to behave to verbal and non-verbal commands whilst leashed, or unleashed, regardless of the surrounding stimuli. Most people remark about her striking beauty and gentle disposition and are surprised when we tell them she is Pitbull and Lab.
We have given and continue to give Coco large amounts of affection and discipline. The discipline is firm, but not abusive, and is much more mental, than physical (when I say physical, I don't mean hitting the dog; I mean tugs on the leash). Coco understands that she is the "Beta Female" within the Family, that my sister is the "Alpha Female", and that I am the "Alpha Male" within the Family. She knows "Her" place within the Family and accepts it (all dogs are pack animals and must learn their "hierarchy" within the pack). We give Coco much love and affection and she returns it in kind!
Betty, my Sister and I wish you and your Family many happy years with Stuka!

I named my cat Typhie, though she went into the Bish horde flying Feralcats, and never came back. She fought like a typhie too, hit hard the first time, then got away to position the next attack...I wore shin guards when she was a kitten. :( Good times.
Good looking dog Betty, but please teach your puppy to not chase cats. My kitties might ruin your puppy's dashing good looks.

Stuka? I thought you wouldve named him Typhoon/typhie but typhie sounds kinda girly :D
ty patches!! i look forward to many years with stuka. I had a samoid chow and husky mixed for 14 years, his name was "reefer" (ex boyfriend named him when i got him) anyways, reef was the coolest dog! i lost reef 2 years ago on feb 20th to that dog food recall, it was the hardest thing i had ever had to go through, it was like losing a kid. anyways, stuka is the first dog that i have had since that is offically MY dog. I chose to get him and train him as I did reefer.
rumble....i would have named him typhie had he been a girl, cuz it does sound like a girls name :)
and enker...dont worry i will make sure that stuka is social with other animals of all sizes, i have a cat out at my mom and dads house that grew up with reefer. he is my "fat cat" cuz hes fat hehe. i will not have a dog that is not social with other animals. i like to go to the beach or go camping and normally there are other dogs there. i need him to be social so that he will be able to enjoy the family outings as my kids and i do. just wouldn't feel right not having the little guy with us. he is such a cool dog right now for only bein 6 weeks old. he has a great personality already :)
-
well...stuka is now 10 weeks old and is pretty much house trained...he sits, lays down, rolls over and even crawls across the floor with his butt up in the air...hes a very smart puppy...anyways i took some pics of him today just to keep track of how big he has gotten...i try to do this every week...so here are some new pics i took of him :)
