There is always Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg TN. Check out the indoor skydiving, TONS of fun! :aok
As for NC, check out Wilmington Beach, nice area, GREAT beach, not as crowded as Myrtle though, sicne it is a bit more obscure.

Rod, Im in East Tennessee. 1 1/2 hours east of Gatlinburg right in the tip that touches VA, NC, and KY. If I recall correctly, Gatlinburg (at least the airport that services it) has an airplane Museum. Houses 2 P47s, a PBY. Cant remember all that is there. You also have Ripleys Aquarium downtown. Always a fun day in Gatlinburg.
Let me know if you're coming to town.

I'd recommend trying to hit the Blue Ridge Parkway if you're coming through Western NC. Not exactly sure how far it runs, but I'm sure it's well into TN and SC. One of the more scenic rides you can take I'd imagine.

So far you have the highlites already listed Rod.
Eastern Tenn:
Gatlinburg
All the tourist shops you could imagine.
A FANTASTIC Aquarium! (Ripleys)
Pigeon Forge
The airport museum is just outside of Sevierville. Which is the next town over from Pigeon Forge.
The Nascar park. Gokarts out the ying-yang for every age group.
Dollywood, but dont expect to see her(Dolly)
Indoor Skydiving, just off the main drag in Pigeon Forge.
All the tourist shops that couldnt fit into Gatlinburg.
Both of those areas have some great resturants. Lots of choices in that department.
And if in either area, check out Cades Cove. It is an isolated area of the Great Smokies National Forest. Easy to find as there are advertisements in EVERY tourist shop and resturant for 100 miles! The kids will get a kick out of seeing deer, an occasional bear, turkey.......all running wild.
Eastern North Carolina:
Cherokee Indian Reservation/Cherokee:
One of the Harrah's Casinos
Tourist shops
Indian dances at certain times of the year on certain days. Google Cherokee,NC for more info
Not much else......
Maggie Valley NC:
Ghosttown in the Sky(not a joke, its a mountain top amusement park, do the google thing prior to planning a stop to make sure its open)
Lots of tourist shops.
Cherokee and Maggie valley arent far apart. Just a few minutes actually.
You can hit the Blue Ridge Parkway http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/ (http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/) near Cherokee and make the trip over towards Asheville. The Biltmore Estate is amazing. It will take more than a day to see it all, if your into wandering around BIG homes/castles.
Chimney Rock is southeast of Asheville. http://www.chimneyrockpark.com/ (http://www.chimneyrockpark.com/) Well worth the stop!
Another place that may be on your route is Chattanooga Tenn. http://www.chattanoogafun.com/ (http://www.chattanoogafun.com/)
Ruby Falls is spectacular! http://rubyfalls.com/ (http://rubyfalls.com/) The elevator ride will have the kids thinking theyve already been to space camp!
Ive spent a LOT of time in western NC and Tenn thru the years. Let me know if I can help!
