Title: Get it off your chest...
Post by: DMBEAR on May 13, 2009, 12:54:07 AM
Anyone else run scams in high school?

I used to help promote and collect funds at field parties in the early 90's.  $5-20 a car depending on who it was or how many.  Of course all costs were waived for superior trim.

Watching the weather was an art in itself.

I admit, my winch on the front of my 4x4 Blazer just added to my income on Sat. and Sunday mornings.

The good ol days.     :D

Quite the opposite. I repaired electronics, for free.

How's the view from up there denholm?   :P  Nah my good buddy would help out my whole group of friends if anyone had any electronic issues...very nice to have one in the bunch.

My contribution to the group was taking people out on our family's boat on the lake in the summer...whooping my friends arses on the tube  :aok  I've yet to meet the man who can stay on a tube behind my boat.   :D

At the moment, quite good. But it gets rather dusty when the fishermen come around. ;)

I am ashamed to say that myself and a couple buddies never paid for fast food in highschool. We would go through a drive through and state our order was messed up a couple days ago and we had called the manager who told us she or he would mark us down and we could come by whenever and pick up replacement food. If they asked who we talked to we would make up a name if they said no one worked there by that name we would claim to have called the wrong store but this store is where the order was messed up. We had a very high success rate. I know it was wrong but being young and stupid it wasn't such a big deal.

I had a lucrative business in my Senior Year of High school, almost 3/4 of the term.    One of the vending machine slots would empty on a single quarter (found it out on accident).   It was usually the 3 Musketeers.    I'd sell them for $.25 each on pure profit, I made about $600 before they fixed the machine.   Rarely ate one, as I preferred the money.

Back before they tore my high school down to make room for a wal-mart, they decided it would be a good idea to rig up a rather extensive security camera system. All of them were attached to main monitor via CAT-5 lan cable (back when it was about $1.25-$1.50 a foot). The people installing it were completely lax about where they left the 300 foot spools of cable sitting around. Between myself and a friend we probably hijacked about 2500 yards (give or take) before they finally started only sitting it out when they needed it. No real profit to be had, I imagine we could have sold it to some sort of contractor, but instead we opted for the "free unlimited yardage of lan cable for life" plan.

The tumbler locks on our coke vending machines were also surprisingly easy to jimmy open. This usually created a flood of people going "omgz free drinks!" while you casually emptied the contents of the bill acceptor.

I never scammed the people, but I used to love sitting on the beach during spring break in Daytona when the tide was out and watch ultra melons park their cars inside the high tide line.  We even told them not to do it, usually to scorn and mind your own business.  I charged $200 a pop to pull those ultra melons outta the surf.   :lol  Paid for a new pickup and a sizable down payment on my first house doing that.

I had a small business forging parents and teachers signatures on permission slips, report cards and the like. Ironically, the only time I got caught was when I did one for myself and used the wrong color ink.

I've got a big arse truck and a set of tires that are good for snow/ice.  Whenever we so happen to get either of the above and people try to drive on it, they wind up in the ditch.  My buddy (who also has a big arse truck) and I go around all the roads and look for people that need help.  Usually charge $20 to pull someone out.  If we know the person, and we know that they have been acting stupid, we charge more  :D

When it comes to muddin it's the same thing.  Someone gets stuck they either call me or my bud.  We have a local place that charges to get in and it's specifically for muddin.  Pull up in whatever you got (truck, four wheeler, even saw an AWD car last year), pay, and go at it.  We're on their speed dial  :D

C'mon no harm no foul.  They got the beer they couldn't get themselves.  They got to hang out with the chicks they were afraid to ask out.   :aok

Not my fault they chose a Trans AM, a Camaro, or a gheyazz Ford Probe to roll into and out of the muddy field I picked.  :D

I miss that '89 Blazer 4x4 with the winch.  Those KC lights were nice too.  I liked to tell the guy I was pulling out to go behind me and direct me so I could blind him and add to his misery.

At least I got them out and usually followed em to a carwash and helped out.

I make myself out to be an assi here, but I actaully liked the remote locations because it helped evade the party getting raided by 5.0.

Driving around now, its funny to see all the old locals covered by shopping centers and posh neighborhoods.

My best was LONG before highschool. As an elementary school kid, I just happened to find a bunch of rusted old nails on the ground. It must have been 3rd or 4th grade... I have no clue what possesed me to try this, but I went around selling them as much as $0.25 each. Kids would buy them! I have no idea why, but I made some good candy-money like that. Nowadays I have set off the Aviator Sunglasses fad again. It started with a school play where I always wore them before rehearsal. After a few days a couple of people wanted them. I went and bought them at the local BX for $23, and sold them for an even $25. All the Nazis (It was The Sound of Music) wore them for the curtain call on the last night, and it became legendary. I bumped the price up to an even $30, and I just sold my 15th pair today. Gotta pay for Summer Seminar at the Naval Academy somehow, right?

Yeah, I guess I preferred to have money instead of friends.

Did you drive a red Fiero?  Maybe we did know each other.  I pulled you outta the mud, and you went the extra mile and found me one of your PoRns on Beta without charging me extra.

I was always a step ahead on all the tech gadgets.
