Title: HELP! Whats the Differences in 109s now?
Post by: Dingy on January 18, 2000, 08:43:00 AM
Guys,

I am not quite as well read as many of you all are in terms of the differences in the 109 variants.  I have read some other posts regarding the inclusion of MW150 in certain engines, etc.  but I am not really sure of what impact it has on the planes flight characteristics.

Would one of you 109 gurus be so kind as to explain how these new 109s perform with respect to speed, climb rate, roll and weaponry?  I'm looking forward to meeting these planes in the air but would like to know what Im in for  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  Im sure its not good!

Some of this might be wrong   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) The performance numbers given for climb are at 100% power, and top speed is done with WEP engaged. Yup, some of it was wrong.

Bf109F-4 - DB601E engine, 1300hp.
Initial climbrate 3250fpm, 20k in 6.37 minutes.
Top speed ~385mph.
Guns: 2x7.9mm, 1x20mm cannon, optional 2x20mm under wings and 66 gallon DT or 500lb bomb.
Considered by many to be the "best" 109 variant ever, it's the most manoueverable of all the 109's in AH.

Bf109G-2; DB605A engine, 1475hp.
Initial climbrate 3500fpm, 20k in 6 minutes.
Top speed ~395mph.
Guns: Same as F-4.
The new DB605 engine was heavier and more powerful, so while the "Gustav" was better performing, it lost some of it's manoueverability due to the extra weight.

Bf109G-6; DB605AM engine, 1475hp. Currently a bug is giving the G-6 similar hp to the G-10.
Initial climbrate 4000fpm, 20k in 5.35 minutes.
Top speed, with WEP; ~405mph. Should be same as G-2 when corrected.
Guns: The bumps on the nose cover the breeches for the bigger 13mm MG131's, and the spinner cannon can be upgraded to the low velocity MK108 30mm cannon - a "one hit killer" against fighters.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) Again, 2x20mm or 2x210mm mortar rockets can be slung under the wings, as well as the 66 gal. DT or 500lb bomb.

Bf109G-10; DB605D engine, ~1800hp with MW50 boosting.
Initial climbrate: 3500fpm, 20k in 6.25 minutes.
Top speed, with MW50; ~435mph.
Guns: Same as G-6.
The ultimate "Gustav" has the even more powerful DB605D engine, as well as a more streamlined nose cowling, allowing it to reach a much higher top speed.

Great info Juzz!  Thanks!

One more question...can you tell which variant you are fighting before you get within vis range?  I guess this means are there different icons for each variant?

Would be real intresting to see more realistic shooting ranges.. not some 700 yards sprays which kills maneuvering plane for good..

Would make 30mm cannon much more better than 20mm.. currently I like 20mm far more better.
At least the amount of kills I get with 20mm, talks for it.

With closer ranges (Which I believe to be more correct), 30mm would be alot more devastating, when pilot doesnt have to be afraid to get sprayed to death from +700 yards, whatever he does.

From what some of the other posts have said, yes I believe it is modeled when WEP kicks in.

Some posts have argued that this is not quite correct since it MW50 could be enabled at any throttle setting.

My question is this:  did MW50 usage increase fuel burn rate and if so is this modeled?

IMHO some swapping will be needed during future FM fine tuning  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Thats the equation:

the F4 climbs like a real dog,   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
the G2 climbs like a real G6,   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)
the G6 climbs like a real G10, like a rocket that is   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
the G10 climbs like a real dog   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

MW 50 increased fuel use dramatically.

Indeed Gatt is right on every count  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)
