What I would wish for, is the ability to pick and chose which 15 skins I see when I fly or use or encounter a certain plane type.
There might be 32 skins available for a plane but the player can put 15 into his version of the game and use those. Another player may only have 12 in common and want 3 others that the first player does not want to use. So, one sees what he wants, the other sees what he likes.
These would all be approved skins, historical and HTC reviewed. The skin resevoir could be hosted just like it is currently but with a small thumbnail or "II/JG52" description by each file.

The reason skins are client side is so that Player X sees the same skin on Player Y's pony as Player Y sees.
You go randomly mixing up the skin files on YOUR client end and it's all random skins. No cohesion. If you're asking for client side skins that's another can of worms. You get the entire client-side skin problems same as IL2's family of games, where folks paint giant purple thunderbolts and green/yellow flames on their planes.
What you propose simply won't work unless EVERYbody has every skin, in which case you're just asking for the skin limit to be upped to "more than 15" -- and HTC won't do this for memory/systemresource reasons.

What if it is like it is now. If you don't have that skin downloaded, it shows default.
Therefore, lets say there's 100 skins for the Pony. You can only use 15 in game, like now, but you are able to choose those 15. Then, you will be able to fly that skin and see it if another player is flying the same skin. Those who don't have it downloaded only see the default skin.
I'm pretty sure that we choose the skins based on individual preference (someone chooses to fly a skin because they like it.) I think there's really no point, other than variety and squads, in seeing other people's skins.

...And want others to experience it as well. Otherwise there is really no point in seeing other aircraft in anything but a default skin, period.

I, for one, really don't care if others see my skin, as long as I get the joy of flying it.

Once again Krusty proves he cannot read or maybe just comprehend.
All skins would have to be HTC approved, compiled and done JUST LIKE NOW.. but the ability to rename them and put them in the game as the 15 that you or you and your buddies want to use.
Player "A" might be flying Festers 78thFG skin as skin#14, but player "B" might have chosen Machnix's 361st FG skin as skin#14. So rather than black and white checks, he sees a yellow noser.

I would love to see this, to be able to get different numbers for squads, to create historical squads with the different designations and such would bring a lot of realism and identity to various wings in AHII. So you could create the NN GC3 squad (my dream) and all get into YAK-9s with different numbers for different pilots and be identified as that number.
however, I don't think its realistic at this stage considering the space all this kind of info would take up.

Umm where in this thread is anyone spamming?
IMO there should be unlimited skins on the front page. Everyone gets to choose which 15 they want for each plane. When someone comes into view that has a different skin that you don't have it should show up as default skin.
Here is an example why it should be like this. I did a P51B skin a few months ago. I know my squaddies and a few people in the AH community that want to fly it but because the slots are filled they cant. But at the same time two people are taking up 8 slots alone for the B pony. IMO with planes like the P51s one player should have a max of two skin slots since they have to most skins that have to be rotated. Its not fair to the rest of the skinning community for two people to take up more then half of the slots.

I think he is talking about the fact that this topic got posted three times. I hit post, waited... left came back nothing.. did it again, left came back nothing.. did it again.. left came back and 3 versions were posted.
My apologies but something was going on yesterday afternoon.
And I agree with Larry, but 4 planes per set should be the maximum once they fill up. Some planes though don't have alot of skinners contributing. When the 51s came out it appears that a couple people got their template done and just ran through a bunch of skins. Good at the time to give people something to fly but that was 2005.
