What I would wish for, is the ability to pick and chose which 15 skins I see when I fly or use or encounter a certain plane type.
There might be 32 skins available for a plane but the player can put 15 into his version of the game and use those. Another player may only have 12 in common and want 3 others that the first player does not want to use. So, one sees what he wants, the other sees what he likes.
These would all be approved skins, historical and HTC reviewed. The skin resevoir could be hosted just like it is currently but with a small thumbnail or "II/JG52" description by each file.
This also has the benefit of allowing squadrons who have historical references to build a library of aircraft for their players to fly.

Wow how did that happen?

I like this idea, but would also like the ability to easily change all your default skins from that list too. This way if you play with other player skins disabled
and you're in a scenario or snapshot, the other planes skins would fit the battle.

EDIT: I had a feeling I had already posted in a similar thread :lol

Hey Fencer, how ya been? Wouldn't this really defeat the purpose of having a choice in what skin you choose? If I want you to see me in one, but you don't have it selected, then what was the point? We already have something similar by selecting to show only default I believe. Which one would it show though, a random selection from your choices? If you run into a group of similar skinned aircraft you have an idea who you might be up against, but if it randomly assigns only those you selected, then it will look like a gaggle of your chosen skins. Perhaps I am not understanding exactly what you are saying.
I would like the ability to use unused slots to assign alternate skins for the more popular ones. Maybe a pool that can be used for more skins by one that is currently full. An example: P51 slots are full, but there are 12 unused slots for AR234s, these 12 slots can be used by Pony skinners or other aircraft on a first come - first accepted basis or some other balancing criteria. As a new skin is added to one that has been borrowed from, ie. a new AR 234 skin is added, it would subtract one from those with excess, ie. a pony skin. Not sure if that makes sense. The only problem with this is that those few skinners out there may decide to skin a different aircraft from the same squadron so each member of their squad can have a unique aircraft ID. Maybe limiting the number of aircraft from the same squadrons or wings or something might discourage this. It would be nice to see those unused slots put to work.

Hobo

I like this idea. Just wonder if we wouldn't be shooting ourselves in the foot and defeating the purpose of limited skins per plane with this idea though.
If load times are such a problem, I get stutters, then could we see a reduction in skins per model as they add new models of aircraft and vehicles?
Nevertheless, +1 on unused slots.
