Title: Slight noseart problem
Post by: Mar on May 18, 2009, 01:12:18 PM
I have this noseart that seems to have holes in it when it is displayed in game, but there are none in the original picture. I would appreciate if someone could adjust it a little so it won't have holes in it in the game.

Do you want me to remover that border that runs along the right and bottom edge?

Yes, and can you remove that gray area as well?

Sorry, should have been more specific. I would like to keep the glare from the lights with a black background.

Yeah that's almost right, but...

Hope I'm not being too picky, but could you have it look like the edges weren't just cut off? Like try and fade the edges into the background so it looks like a real glow. Three lights in the dark.

You're sending him booze for doing this, right?

Better yet, I'll give you a bigger picture to work with:

Salute Tec and Mar,

Mar, you are going to be limited in the glow effect you're looking for because of the gray area that will be in the light fade.  Transparency is 176-176-176 in the game.  Fading to the black background will generate sections with that transparent color.  This will, in turn, create the original problem you experienced and approached the forum about (the holes.)

I would recommend dropping the edge blur and using a 1 pixel wide green line around each individual circle that is a solid color. You could, from outside in, use a 1 pixel green, inside that 1 pixel yellow, inside that original green color.  This can give the "illusion" of a slight blur at distance.  Keep in mind this noseart is a minuscule size in the game.  Detail is lost at any range unless you blow it up yourself from f3 view.  Remember that noseart is a reduced representation of your unit.  Lots of detail is generally lost at reduction, even blurs.

Well if it can't be done, don't worry about it, I used gamma correction and got the gray mostly faded away while keeping the glow.

Thanks for the help.
