Title: Very the clouds and weather
Post by: nick172 on May 20, 2009, 12:46:34 PM
I would love to see parts of the map where clouds are at 5000 ft and solid so you can't see through them at all make them 1000 ft thick and you can't even see the ends of your wings when you are in that 1000ft ducking into clouds would mean something. Also you could run missions over or under the cloud deck or in it for that matter.  This is real life reality if your above the clouds your not seeing a plane flying under them.  Rain storms would be cool too.

They are......... You need a better graphics card.  :salute  Clouds at least.......

Although the cloud cover never falls under 13k..... At least what I have seen.  But we do also have clouds moving around at all alt's.  Pockets of them here and there.

RAIN....... Would be awesome but an FPS nightmare.

Logan your right we do have them but you can see through then and you should not.  If you have ever been flying in clouds you would know that when you are in them you cannot see anything under or over them.  As it is now we can, you can't duck under or into the clouds to hide

As it is no chance of accedently running into another plane when you are in the clouds, and your deffinatly never going to get disorianted.

You don't need clouds to get disorientated.  I can do it on the ground without a problem now.

There is one map, can't remember which, that the clouds are actually totally white and not even the plane icon is seen........

Does anybody know which that is?

Im digging up this thread to avoid creating another one...

Alpha is looking great atm, but, plz, enable CLOUDS to end this depressing neverending blue-blue-blue

Clouds will grant realism to ACM and, as i know some will say "no, because I may lose some framerate", plz consider
it's 2015, not 1999 anymore, and even air warriors has clouds for a long time !
Also,  many new players  will try AHIII ; clouds will be a selling big plus !

Plz, CLOUDS for AHIII ! !!!  :aok :rock :aok

If you read the patch notes it does say clouds and wakes are still to be added.

I also hope they are able to use them a lot more though.  With the efficiency improvements of some things in the Alpha I'm hoping they'll get similar gains with the clouds.

Wasnt there a map once that had rain and clouds? Or at least clouds, I remember a cloudy port. I remember something of the sort.

But be careful what you wish for. Weather is a huge systems Hog and if its written wrong then you'll end up like WW-ll OL that had one lousy cloud formation over the entire continent of Europe at 200' Alt. It would rain occasionally but mostly it was just cloud and it began a chain of events that led to the game being ruined by killing the air combat game 30% of the time.

I don't mind clouds, even weather if they can do it with out killing frame rates, but to be used as another way to avoid a fight? No thanks, give me bright sunshine so they can't hide, only run.

Thats not "another way to avoid a fight" for majority of players, and even if some do so, it will be ok :why ? Because it happened in wwii air fights. ..75%+ missions in WWII had clouds : its a question of realism : players subscribe to AH because they want to experience as closely as possible WWII air combat : clouds were part of most air combats in WWII, as they have always been. And the same and same and same and same AND SAME blue sky is annoying and too repetitive, it's a big "-" in Ace High game features for potential new customers, compared to all other wwii air combat sims available, that's for sure. :frown:

 :salute

:airplane: +100 on the clouds, but, just remember, a lot these guys in here are not IFR pilots, so you would have some crashes for sure. But to add to your point, very few missions were flown over Europe during the winter months. Would be very nice to see towering CB's standing all over the place, but don't think it is going to happen!

Are trees a means to avoid a fight for GVs?  It's just another element to take into account in the fight.  Runners going to run no matter what, I just think clouds would add a gameplay element that's lacking in the current game.

I once made a thunderstorm for a terrain, complete with flashes of lightening (not pictured).  Never got around to getting it in-game though.
