Title: You build it.....
Post by: Strip on May 20, 2009, 04:31:18 PM
Your mission.....if you choose to accept it....is to build my computer for less than 500 bucks.

The rules...

1. Only an AMD Processor....I have a 5000+ dual core already so if it can be used all the better.

2. NVidia graphics card(s).....must run AH2 and most new games with everything maxed

3. Must use donor 500GB hard drive, DVD R/W, media drive, and case.

4. Sound card.....any you deem decent.

5. Optimised for a 22" 1680 by 1060 GateWay widescreen.

Shouldnt be to hard for you gurus but to many options for me to decide. If its too easy I will throw the OS in at the same price. Seriously thanks in advance for the replies tho. I would use some of the guys on this board but I really want to build this one myself. If you can supply these parts (tilDeath?) I would consider purchasing them. Looking to do something in a week or two so lets see...

Only thing I see that may be worth looking over on that list is the Motherboard.  It has only PCI-E x16 instead of x16 2.0.

i've mentioned this before the X2 kuma i have not yet had a the bug "spinning clipboard" compared to the brisbane cored X2's ...  the 2.7kuma is even cheaper and from what i heard is better at over clocking then the 2.8 . not sure how true that is.. but for the .1 ghz its a toss up

you did not stat what socket type the processor was?  AM2 or 939  and you did not state if the hard Drive was IDE or SATA.........  this could make a big difference......

edit: and is the DVD/RW IDE or Sata   we know the media drive  is more than likely USB.....what type of case?  if its a mini tower or micro ATX board size could cause complications as well....so what size is the case?

I like what Karaya posted again. Except I'm not so sure about the motherboard. It's not what I would choose but it does stay in budget.

I only picked a MB/CPU combo.   That can be adjusted under the $500.   I guess I just wanted to see how much leeway was possible.

That's amazing that it can be built so inexpensively.

Still need a case though.

My Computer is only about 80$ over budget, and that's using a very outdated and overpriced GPU! :D

It is always possible to build cheap working PCs.  Won't be "screaming" as many want, but it will do rather well regardless.

I have this and works awesome on a ASUS M4A78. My FPS on AH went from (using an acient Athlon 1900+ XP 1.6 Mhz) 22fps to 45-57fps. Doesn't get that hot.
