Title: Spit 16 has peaked my interest....
Post by: DVDA on May 22, 2009, 12:25:30 PM
Since as long as I can remember (AOL Beta days) I have always flown the FW190 but I am getting tired of the run and gun style...

The Spit 16 has peaked my interest, anyone willing to show me how to turn fight it with? I recently saw a Spit 16 out turn fight a Spit 5 was wondering how the pilot managed this?

Also what planes can the Spit16 out run? (use to the Dora I could outrun alot)

Bank wings in the direction you desire to turn, pull back on stick, acquire the bandit's 6, saddle up and fire.

That depends a lot on the pilots, but generally a XVI should beat the V every time if the XVI uses the vertical.  Its thrust/weight ratio is so much better it's not much of a contest.

Also what planes can the Spit16 out run? (use to the Dora I could outrun alot)

Outrun with what starting speed?  If you're starting the race only going 200mph, you can beat 90% of the planeset in a drag race.  Only the Spit XIV, La-7, Tempest and 109K-4 compare.  If you're talking about maximum sustained level speed at sea level, you're faster than the Ki-84, 109G-2/6/F-4, all other Spits except the XIV, N1K, any Hurricane, any A6M, F6F, P-40B/E, P-39D/Q, Yak-9T, Ki-61, 190A-5, 110C/G, F4F/FM-2, Mosquito, C.202/205 and P-38G; you're about equal to the P-38J/L, P-47D-25/40, but you unless you're starting at max speed you run them down with acceleration.  Between 2k ft and 10k ft the XVI is faster than the F4U-1D/C.

I heard that the spit 16 was slow   :lol,

It is a fantastic plane to fight and furball with,  the great roll rate sets itself apart from the other spits due to the clipped wing.  However slow speed is effected but not drastically reduced.

Some would argue it is one of the best non perked dogfighters in game.  They wouldn't be wrong either.

If i'm online i'll be happy to show you its strengths and it's weaknesses.

Boy, DVDA I guess patience really is a virtue with you.  All those years playing with virtually just one style.  Bruv can tighten you up with the XVI np.  Take him up on his offer when you run into him.

I heard that the spit 16 was slow   :lol,

Funny Bruv119, I heard that visious rumor also!  I know for sure that they are not slow when going straight up.  Tired of those damned things plucking me from my perch.  Just flew it for several days (week) a couple of
tours ago for the first time.  I don't think I was ashamed like some people talk about when they fly it, but I definitely felt I had an unfair advantage over the average MA crowd.  It was fun.  Just took it up for a sortie and it kind
of lasted for a week!

Have fun DVDA

Well I don't know about out turning a Spit 5 or many other planes in AH, and I never fight a spit 16 in the TnB style I always try to fight it in the Vertical. IMO it is in the top of the class in energy fighting (because of its acceleration and climb rate). But that doesn't mean it can't TnB I just think its better in a vertical fight, and I hear a lot of folks say not to get slow with a F4U, I do and when his flaps start coming out I just take the fight up in a spiral climb and wait for him to level out and it becomes a slashing fight. But if you want to turn fight there are better planes suited for this style.

The Spizteen is an interesting bird. You may want to try this. Once you established you have the guy in trail at 800 or so begin a gentle climb of about +2.5-2.8 fpm. You will just kinda walk away from many planes.

After you try that then try again steeper. You'll be pleasantly surprised at just how nice they  go up.

They do everything fairly well. I kinda like shooting them down since they have a tendency to be everywhere. :)

Ref Hogs. A guy that can manage and hide his E will eat up a Spizteen all day long.

Hope this helps.

I hope ALL the fulltime Spit16 pilots read this and follow it to the letter.

:lol  Yeah, there are a few planes you wouldn't want to do this against, the P-38J/L being one of them.

Not if he meant his interest has peaked and it's all downhill from there.

Peaked...Piqued holy hell, never knew there was a difference...

Want to hear something scary...I was Valedictorian of my High School, I graduated undergrad with a 3.65 GPA (Cum Laude) as a Member of the Business Honors College. I am also currently in Law School.

So what this means is, the United States Educational system sucks :-P

But atleast I know what the Ming Dynasty is (after learning it 300 times)

Why climb away when you can do the uber secret death-blossom maneuver?

I've seen that in AH before, usually it happens when the Spit16 is missing a wing and the guy is firing his guns all the way to the ground.

I was a 16 against a 5, and its manual trim with flaps, and massive throttle control. And beer to replensih the sweat. I'd be willing to do some TA/DA/MA training with you in the Spit16. About the only spit I fly. Learning the K4 right now, but you can PM here or in the MA. In game name Floatsup.

Cheers  :salute

The Spixteen isn't made for running...why not use a 190 if you continue to run?

Dont assume i ment "running away" there is occasional times when you have to chase a plane who is running...I'd like to know on the deck who can i catch up to.

DVDA,
You'll find that posting on these boards will always produce at least a couple dumbarse replies.  Thankfully there are some helpful folks in here too.  Good luck with the Spit16 and might I suggest also trying the F4U-1A or 38 L/J?  Better range and ammo loadout (IMO) than the Spitty and a good stick in one can do that turning fight business quite well.

Don't take this as gospel.. some speeds may be off 1-2mph.

Lusche, why is the Ki84 missing from your fancy bar graph?  Is there some deep seeded Freudian thing going on that we should know about?  How do you feel about your father?  :D

My excuse: Based on old data, just didn't realize Ki-84 is missing.  :noid
