Title: SIM PIT
Post by: CRYPTIC on May 23, 2009, 01:25:10 PM
I saw a pick of a Sim pit that was  made out of metal square tubing a while back. I've searched for it and can't find it could someone point me in the direction of that pic, or who made it. Thanks

I don't think this is the one he's talking about-- there is another one floating around that uses your stick inputs to create banking, climb, and dive motions that some-what emulates what's happening on the screen.  It's all mechanically done, IIRC.

Yes, we need more information do you have interest in a static or motion cockpit. Do you plan on building it yourself or buying a pre assembled product. I am in the process of building a functional pit with functional controls to replicate a WW2 fighter. here is pic of my project.  I decided to go with a kit since i don't have the time or equipment to cut wood.  I have tons of links to simpits on my laptop PM me if you want more information.

How can you see larger pics of the projects?  I'm interested in what David D. has his stick mounted on, but can't really see it as is.  Is there somewhere to see larger pics of these projects?

I'v seen that one out of pvc,but there was one I saw on here out of looked like one inch metal square tubing.
Been laid off so was looking for some thing to keep me busy out in the shed instead of in the house with wife ack.
Have seen most of them on the web, but would like to make my own.Would like to make it pull apart in middle so its easier to move getting old.

Here's mine.

It's not square tubing, but it does break down for transport.

It's still a work in process. As you can see I'm still missing a cup holder, and there are a few other things I would like to add, or modify.

Try the Barnes and Akers pit,
It is relatively easy to build, and will accomidate the switch panels and one can customize it to your taste,
all it takes is a little imagination and simple wood working tools

I have lots of pictures from unassembled to fully assembled and covered.

Keep in mind it is not a motion simulator, but instead eliminates outside visual and hearing stimulus to allow yourself total immersion into the flight environment.

Here is one picture and if it is the one you are thinking of, I can post additional photos:

Thanks that the one I was  looking at 68valu. If possible do you have any plans that I could work off off and change to my specs. I like the one out of metal, there are some out there out of PVC fromhttp://www.rogerdodger.net/videos/pvc_flightsim_part2.html (http://www.rogerdodger.net/videos/pvc_flightsim_part2.html). Yours is what I have had in mind for some time know, and know I'm getting ready to start my project.

I'm actually getting ready to build another.
i'll keep a more detailed record of it as I build. The first one was a design and build as I went, so I didnt write measurements down.
I'll send them to you when complete.
