hello guys, and thanks for taking time to check this out. my computer used to run O-K, before i formatted.
i did a format on my system, and now the discos are out of control. i have 65 discos on my score sheet for this month, and that is only a partial amount of what im going thru. sometimes the discos are back to back, rarely i can squeeze a few hours of gameplay.
i updated all drivers except BIOS, there was no update for it. before posting this topic, ive tried all possible fixs on this website.
if someone could help me out, im lost and with zero options.
my dxdiag says i got winxp pro, but its deffinately media center editition. amd dual core 2.6 gig, 2 gb ram(max winxp allows), geforce 9800gtx 3d card, sound blaster extreme gamer xfi card.
p.s. running win98 mode off ah2.exe. i get anywhere from 80-160 fps. computer doesnt seem to struggle, nor should it

As far as I'm aware, Windows XP can utilize 4GB of RAM although you will only see 3 - 3.5 GB of that RAM. It's the applications which can only use 2GB of RAM. I take it you installed the AMD Dual Core optimizing patch since you mentioned you followed the tips of this forum? Is the V(ertical)-Sync option of your video settings (settings of your video card) set to, "Force On?"
This is more likely going to be Internet-related than it is hardware-related. It's still always good to ensure that the basics are covered on your end before we start looking at your connection.
-
thanks for the time, i have installed the optimizing patch. i have vsync disabled on my 3d card but i have also tried enabling it. only game that needed it on was NHL 09, otherwise main screen did not display.
win xp can use 3 gigs of ram if you run xp pro. i have media center, says it on my computer. if i had pro, then the 4 gig sticks i had plugged in would have worked, only 2 did according to ah2, even tho on bootup the computer read all 4 sticks.
also, this is not an internet problem. i have zero problems with any other games, and if it was, id get a connection lost box from ah2. might i add after i disco, i can launch internet explorer no problem and browse online.

Could you run a PingPlot to the Aces High Late War Orange MA server then post the results here? Running it for 10 min + will yield more accurate results.
-
how would i go about running a pingplot? i took your advice about the driver cleaner utility from my other topic of p47 skin tiled on mountains.
-
You can run a PingPlot by download PingPlotter from: www.pingplotter.com
After you run the trace on the MA server for 10 or more minutes you go to Edit>Copy as Image(or Text). If copied as an image open up Windows Paint (or your favorite image editing software) and go to Edit>Paste. Now save the image, upload it to an online image hosting service such as ImageShack (http://www.imageshack.us), then place the direct link to the image inside [img][/img]
tags in a response here. If you simply copy the text all you do is paste the text in a response here.
The PingPlotter output gives a good picture of the route traveled from your computer to the HTC servers.

i thought i might point out, i used to have 4 gig sticks plugged in, but had the original 2 removed, so im using the 2 sticks i bought from bestbuy. the begining of my dxdiag report, the page file, does this mean anything:
Page File: 303MB used, 3635MB available
i can only run 2 gig sticks, why is it so high?
ah yes masherbrum, yes ive read that topic, thanks. here is the result from pingplot

Hops 4-7 are your first problems. The second problem is having Level3 in your routing. Contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and find out if they firewall your connection from their end. If so, open up ports 2000-6000 on UDP & TCP. If that doesn't fix it all you can do is complain to your ISP about the lack of service.
-
i kinda figured 4-7 was a problem, red is never good :P
how do i go about changing the level 3?
"If so, open up ports 2000-6000 on UDP & TCP"
how do i do that? im comfortable with computers, and basic routing, how do i open these ports?
-
Only your ISP can change the fact that Level3 is in your route to and possibly from the HTC servers. I highly doubt they will do anything about it any time soon. As for the ports, there's one or two ways you can go about doing that.
The first is to access your router's/modem's control panel then proceed to open those ports on the firewall (commonly known as port forwarding, NAT, or virtual servers). The second is to call your ISP to find out if they firewall your connection on their end (you can't access that firewall most of the time). If they do, kindly ask them to forward those ports to your computer(s).
-
ok i got a linksys router, think i found the page. this is the Port Range Forward section in my router.
application: Aces High II
start: 4 to end: 7
protocol: both (whats differ between tcp and udp?)
ip address: 192.168.1.1(had to put the last 1)
enable: checked
is this properly done? there is also a port triggering tab after the port range forward.
am i doing alright? i cant thank you enough guy.
-
I'm not familiar enough with Networking to tell you the difference. I just know it has to do with data transfer across networks. Is the start-end range time or ports?
-
since im not experienced with advanced routing, i decided to take my router out of the equation. i ran a pingplot, only difference is i have 1 less hub(bc i removed router) and now 3,4,5,6 hubs are 100% packet loss(was 4,5,6,7). that # 3 hub Denholm mentioned moved to #2.
what is the problem with that hub denholm? it has the best ping score, please understand im only trying to pick your brain.
i also talked to my ISP, had to get rid of router for them to ping my modem and they said it has 0 packet loss. they also told me each of those addresses arent theirs, they are HTC's.
i shouldnt have to open any ports if im directly connected to my cable modem right?
here is a pingplot from my backup computer, same connection.
-
The cable/DSL modem could have a firewall all of its own. If it does try forwarding the ports from there. Yes, your ISP doesn't own the HTC servers, but they are in the same network. It's all AT&T and they should take routing problems within their own network seriously. I really have no idea why those four hops are causing you so much trouble. That's something AT&T has to diagnose and repair.
-
got off the phone with cablevision(my cable provider), guy on the phone said its HTC's fault, yet when i did a ping on download.com, yahoo.com, and aol.com, the same problems. at that point he was dumbfounded on the situation, but he was able to confirm that my cable modem model does not have a built in firewall. if i was to get a free modem from them, it would most likely be the one i bought from bestbuy(now they do it!!). here is a screenshot of pingplot on www.aol.com
at this point, i am on my backup computer, directly connected to my cable modem. firewall is disabled.
im going to cablevision tomorrow to get a fresh cable modem.

The proverbial answer:
They're blocking our packets!
