Now how do you stop being bored without the actual contact with humans over the age of 12? My wife came home around 3pm today and I was thrilled to see someone other than the sitter and the kids. But seriously how do you guys do it if you have been working from home for a while? I have had one of the movie channels going in the background all day long.

Yeah we know that and some of us are hoping to reach that pinnacle of success one day...the problem is what are we going to be paid with when we get there???

I've run a recording studio out of my house for the last two years. You'll eventually get used to not being around a bunch of people. You just have to be sure you don't get yourself too isolated from the outside world. Running errands has been great for me to just see other people, and I also try to get out for lunch with the guys or hang with them in the evenings sometimes. But remember, it's not a bad thing to be excited to see your wife. ;)

Being in IT for many years, I've decided to slowly migrate to programming in order to do this.
I'm so very sick of driving to work its incredible. I can't stand my days because of it. I love what I do but HATE dealing with the same office mates day in, day out and having to drive to and fro.
It makes for a hard life honestly. I'd take a pretty big cut to be able to work from home. :( I have so many skills, and great sales experience too. Could really help a national IT chain who needs a technical/sales type of person if anyone knows anyone hiring. :)

Just started the whole home working thing myself a couple weeks ago. So far the mornings are a breeze with lots to keep my occupied but the last couple hours of the day sure drag on by.

Home work can be difficult because you never 'leave the office' after that. At first I had big troubles to break free from the work thoughts - the computer is there sitting all the time.
Now when I close the lid from the laptop I try to forget it's there.

What do you guys do that lets you work from home?

I have not long ago started making custom bicycles with an alternative to pedaling ( read pulse jet ) I know its been done before and its a niche market but I eventually hope this will turn over enough money to keep me at home and not have to go to a workplace every day. I sell engineering supplies and building supplies in a small company of three people ( who I've grown to hate, one of the guys is a complete skirt ) and dealing with multiple people every day on the telephone or face to face, who I've a great contempt for some of the stupidity I encounter. To work from home would be an absolute joy, get used to it, its a good thing, after twenty years of dealing with the public and workmates its my goal.

I started 10 months ago. I love it, doesn't bother me one bit. Working retail for a couple of years gave me fantastic perspective. I'm never really bored, I mean how can you be bored when you have the limitless fun of the intardnetz? In fact I posted on Facebook a couple days ago that I proclaimed my job to be the perfect job...because for me it is!

I mostly worked from home until i retired a year ago. It takes some time getting used to Reschke but in a few months you will prolly love it. :)
There are many bonuses to working from home:
1. no need for underwear
2. if you want quiet time from the missus just say you have to work and close the door
3. no commute
4. nobody complains if you fart or if your body odor is not meeting their expectations.
5. lunch is when you are hungry
6. want an extra day off? just say your internet connection crapped out on you
7. hung over?.. see 6
8. if you have a photo printer you can get new coworkers in your office every day, and they can all come from the playboy mansion.
9. nobody knows if your coffe is actually irish coffe

I work from home (and have for the last 4@5 years)
The Good:
Can get a lot done in a short amount of time.
Work in a relaxed environment
Can work outside on nice days
Can set my own hours
No drive to the offfice.
The Bad:
Do not know when to stop working...i.e. will just finish this up and be done with it..
(Wife's input... I help with running the household) wife thinks I need to work form the office more :)
Allways available if the phone rings. (The engineering dept. I work for is 9 Hours behind me.

What do you guys do that lets you work from home?
Well lets see. I have a unique skill set in that I know what concrete does to hardened steel pipes when it moves through them. Not just the abrasive side of things but the theoretical/pratical side as far as the movement of the aggregates within the mix and that sort of thing. I also have some really good contacts from years of testing/sales/technical troubleshooting during testing to allow me to sell those same pipes from home around the world without leaving Alabama...well without being gone for 40+ weeks a year. I travel about 25% of the year on sales and training trips to OEM's and end users so I am paid a decent salary with good benefits to only have to go to the home office once every couple of months. Compared to one month ago when I was working from the office we used to have here in Alabama that got shut down and everyone lost their job...except for me and all our production got moved to Wisconsin.
