Title: Games for a Mac G5?
Post by: Anodizer on June 04, 2009, 09:22:29 PM
The Mac I got (for free) is not of the Intel architecture..
It's a PowerMacG5 dual 2.0ghz processors with 3.5 gigs of RAM and an ATI 9800 Pro PCI/e...

Tried looking up some info on this but there seems to be a gap in between the old and new architecture..

Tried some older games but they didn't work on this OS(10.5.6)..

Everyone that I knew that had a Mac (pre-Intel) always had Virtual PC installed so they could play PC games.

QFT

I have a copy of Virtual PC, but of Windows 98 and does not work one bit on my oldish Mac, so I doubt it will work on his G5. I keep it around for watching movies on my laptop though.

Looks like this, though mine is only calls itself the Mac OS, no numbers yet. (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/19/95633731_1c1f2ee882.jpg?v=0)

Depending on the version of the Virtual PC, they ran Windows 95 and 98 last time I looked through my dad's old computer boxes, but there may be some more versions of Virtual PC.

Is dual booting the computer not an option?

Virtual PC 7.0.3 (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/virtualpc.html)

From the screenshot, it looks like it's able to run XP.

There are some good demos you can find out there for OSX... Unreal Tournament, MoH, Ghost Recon, X-Plane, Spyhunter. BtRL has a good OSX demo, too.

If you're into retro games, check out the Aleph One porting of the old Marathon game from Bungie. :aok
