Title: Hide friendly RADAR dot
Post by: FBGrit on June 05, 2009, 03:56:06 PM
I have asked this before but last night I ran into a guy who admitted swapping sides so he could see the friendly DAR dots and jump sneak attacks.  He did not even try to use two accounts.  It will not solve all the spy issues but it would be nice if we had the mission option of hiding our DAR dot from friendlys.  I do not suggest changing the way DAR is displayed to enemy units.

I think most pilots would use it for sneak attack missions.  It would be very much like the friendly DAR display in senarios.

He can only switch sides to spy every 30 minutes.  Takes another 30 minutes to switch back.  Plan your missions accordingly.

The only down side to this is they can switch to a vox channel in the 200+ range and talk across country's..........

But HE doesn't get the "satisfaction" of shooting down the mission as the OP gave for the guy switching sides to begin with.

In the long run, if someone really wants to waste his time switching sides to do this, hiding friendly cons really won't make a difference.

Yeah, a couple of times I've been able to pass on info about inbound cons or nme cvs to NOE raids I've just happened to see on country dar.

just curious of those who oppose this, what negative affect would it have on your personal gameplay ?
after all if its an "option" it means you have a choice..so why would it bother you.
unless of course you are a armchair general and dont feel secure about the thought of people taking the time to plan missions and carry them out covertly.

I thought the point of the wish was from an "armchair general and don't feel secure about the thought of people taking the time to plan missions and carry them out covertly"

Seems every failed mission is because of "Spiez11!!"

How often do missions actually fail?  How often are missions met FAR from the base they are hitting?

How many have run across a mission taking off or flying by randomly?

More information is better.  Seeing where friendly cons are helps one to decide whether to fly in an area or not.  Looking for a big, congested fight?  Go where all the cons are smooshed close to each other.

Base being hit?  Is anyone up defending?  Are enough up defending?  Etc.

As has been stated time and time again in threads about NOE raids or Hords, if you really don't want to fight anyone, why are you playing an on-line game with hundreds of others?

There are many reasons a mission gets squashed.  Spiez!!1! are probably the least of them.

I have better suggestion (not new either).
Decrease bottom radar alt to say 50 feet and make autopilot dont work at this alt.
Or just remove NOE completely.

its not allways "spies" alot of times its some noob who sees the gaggle, wants to join in and breaks dar.
or the group flys to close to a cv,or just blind luck... the list goes on.

but you still are avoiding my question, how will it hurt your gameplay ????

I use friendly radar to evaluate fights and threats.  I see an enemy dar bar approaching a base, or in a sector and see if any friendly aircraft may be engaging them.  If it's covered adequately I would probably go elsewhere.  If not, I may go defend.

It also allows me to find a fight based on the number of friendly dots I see.  I can compare dar bar size and get an idea of enemy strength to evaluate the kind of fight I may find at that particular spot.

Not friendly dots would make this more difficult.  Not impossible, but finding a fight would not necessarily be as easy.

That's how it would affect me.

Also, I really do not buy the overwhelming affect those who yell SPIEZ!!11! seem to think there is to game play.

I use friend dar of course for knowing where the friendlies are, so I can vector to them or away from them depending on the situation, same with squaddies, gotta know where they are if out of icon range. I change countries often, but dont look for NOEs before I leave. Personally I dont care about missions too much, if I see a big green blob heading to an enemy base, I generally go the other way.
