...and it hurt bad. I was flying for the rooks the other day in Blue. I had a hell of a kill streak going (for my skill level anyway) and I knew the war was soon to be won from all the radio chatter so I was looking to land. I find the nearest friendly field, line up,chop throttle, gear down, touch down, brakes, slowing to a stop...reset...all of a sudden it's not a friendly field anymore. Tracers were coming at me from all sides. I was litterally a click away from ending a successfull sortie when I was killed at what was a friendly field just seconds ago. :huh
That was my first experience with a reset. It raises a few questions for me. When the war is won the map apparently resets to some kind of default. Why? Why not just let it be until the map is changed in 4 minutes? And speaking of that, if the map resets to a default you are often times going to be much further than 4 minutes away from a friendly field. I guess the best you can hope for in that case is a ditch. Now, I was specifically looking at the map when the reset happened, can someone please explain the reset process for me? I don't mind dieing but I'm not big on surprises.
Thanks,
Rider

Sortie doesn't count once the map's reset unless you land successfully.

Surprise!!!!

It is the last chance us Bish have to punish you evil conquerors.

The way I understand it, the map resets and the base ownership is set to the next in rotation for that map. In other words, it's setting which bases are owned by which countries the next time that map is used.
Yes, it's a bummer that it has to reset that way...since many people are trying to land and all of a sudden they're 50+ miles from the nearest friendly base. But, as was said before, I too believe the sortie is thrown out if you can't land when the arena kicks you out.
Just another thing we all have to live with...I have more important things in the real world to worry about, so I don't get all worked up over it.

I have been in that situation where I am landing about the time of a reset and get killed by the base I was defending/attacking. If you stay in the alive till your disconnected that sortie won't count at all. So your side is beating up vulching a field and someone from your side does something stupid like take the last field needed for a reset they screw you.

The nightmares once put together a mission of 8 goons and any fighter cover we could get. We had received word that the town was down. However there was probably more than 3 full dar bars of defenders at the bish base and they had been going at it for about 4 hours. There were bish, rooks, and knits all at this key base . I mean it was chaos beyond all comprehension. We came it at about 8 - 10k and let out our troops. You could see the panic in the defenders eyes. The enemy planes went into frenzy, diving to kill the troops. Once they went after the troops they were picked. When the base was captured it was like an atomic bomb went off. All of sudden no cons in sight. I laughed until I cried. 3 dar bars gone, just gone.

Actually, the map resets to its default configuration. When a map is built, there are no "Bishop, Knight, Rook" fields. Everything is "Country 1, Country 2, Country 3." As you know from dot commands, Bishops are Country 1, Knights are Country 2, and Rooks are Country 3 on the client side.
When a map is first put up after a reset, the server randomizes which country is which on its end in order to give fair play over the long term. When that map is finally won by someone, the server has dropped that recognition and the map returns to the way it was built.

Interesting you make that comment & yet you have a pentagram for a Avatar. :D

I was playing one weekend afternoon taking off from a base to attack another when the map was reset and the base turned into an enemy base. There were a bunch of us there and we managed to capture the base back and all land before the system booted everyone out of the arena.

I had 6 kills in a ME-163 once and had this happen, I was not happy.

If I have a bunch of kills I try to ditch (if I can't get to a friendly base) just so they count. If you don't care stay in the air and the sortie never happened in the games eyes.

LOL... Your kidding right? Seems of late Bish getting land grabbed and ganged by both sides continuously. Which is cool, excitement/adrenaline level are at an all time high for me. All sides do it, to me it's more of a challenge to thwart you evil doers. :D
