Was reading my AHT last night on the F4U-4 Corsair and came across some interesting information.
On page 508, it lists the different Corsair models, and their internal and external fuel capacities. (table snipped for brevity)
F4U-1 361 Internal 175 External
F4U-1C 361 Internal 175 External
F4U-1D 237 Internal 300 External
F4U-4 234 Internal 300 External
This would seem to indicate that the -1C still had the wing tanks that were removed from the -1D. And the -1C still had the single centerline attachement point, in contrast to the pair of wingmounted attachment points of the -1D.
The information does confuse me since, the -1C was reportedly a -1D model equipped with a different armament.
Currently, in AH, the two variants have the same fuel systems, and twin external attachement points.
It could be a typo, but does anyone else have anymore information?
Normally I wouldnt' care but since fuel is such a big deal in AH, and Pyro had asked the other day in another thread for anymore information on the -1C external stores arrangment, I thought I would post this.

VERY interesting stuff Verm.
Just a BIT more internal fuel and I'd never use a DT on the Hawg. A 1C with more gas... drool. Bring it on.
Unfortunately, I would have liked to see the increased internal fuel on the D model. That would have given me reason to fly the .50 cal version. :/ Oh well.

In surfing the net for info on Big Blue I found that it varies from source to source. Some say a 1C is a modified 1A there for wing tanks and single DT and others say 1D platform. Production dates point towards it being built on a 1D platform but you never know 200 1A could have been modified that were sitting around waiting to be shipped. I would be really interested to find out which it was and will continue to search for hard data.
Thought to chew on. Where are the wing tanks in the -1A? What is the wieght difference between the 4 20mm and the 6 .50s with ammo? What is the actual mounting location of the cannon versus outer wing for the .50s? Answer these and it may shed a clue (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Pyro was already aware of the AHT info when he asked for other sources.
One thing that is missing in the -1D for sure is the auxiliary fuel tank. The main tank held 237 gallons, 50 of which were in a separate internal auxiliary tank which had to be selected by the pilot. See AHT page 546 lower left corner for a drawing of the -1D fuel selector. Without the ability to select this 50-gal tank separately we will have no reserve if our main tank springs a leak.
Incidentally, the leading edge fuel tanks on the -1A were not self sealing, so properly modeled they may make the Hog a bit more prone to burning when hit.

Every source I've hit so far, Smithsonian,Paxriver,Pima all give me little in the way of figures, but as far as I can tell, no difference in fuel cap at all.

I guess the real issue is whether the -1C is a derivative of the -1D or the -1A. I have seen both statements and data that supports either position.
The differences in the FM would overall be small, but it is interesting for me in a historical way.

I have also seen that the -1c is a -1a with cannons but laso that it was early -1d I dont think it had rocket mounts on the wings. The pics in AHT show no mounts but could be a wrong pics for the -1c. I believe the extra two 50 cals in the wing is what changes the fuel load they take up more room for guns and the ammo.
