At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated,
"If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating:
If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:
1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash........ Twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could
continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.
4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.
6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.
7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.
8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.
11. After you change a few parts on the engine, it will no longer start, until you contact GM for a new key. For some reason, everyone is okay with that as well.
:)
Could be an oldy, but a goody.

:rofl
That is so true in so many ways.

Musta been talking about either vista or '98...
Probably vista.
:P

That may have been true for win95, win98, winME, and windows NT 4.0.. But you have to admit XP wasn't that bad...
;)

I've rarely had problems on Vista or XP. And once you turn off the overly-intrusive security in Vista it's really not as bad as it's made out to be.
Not switching to Windows 7 right away, tho.

That one's old even to me. In fact, I think I got that in one of my first emails when I was eight years old.

That wasn't so many years ago, you young whippersnapper. You have to remember most of us are old(er) folks.

A decade in the world of computers is forever, Snoopy. :D

I have always said how intellegent you are, OOZ. Seriously, most of the time. Love ya like a son anyway.

:lol

GM forgot 1,if you wanted to put the engine from your car into another, you have to pay for the engine you own!
-
Added #11. :)

Referring to GM in a time of crisis such as this one is far too political for these boards, Skuzzy. ;)
-
Ahhh, but I am putting them in a good light. :)
-
Microsoft must have partnered with Chevy when they designed the new C6 Corvette....
You press the Start button to shut the car off!
:uhoh
-
Would you rather pay for a Stop button?

Win7 has been working fine for me on my laptop. It is frustrating where they have moved stuff for no apparent reason and I STILL am pissed that the "up" button is still missing from windows explorer (you can take the boy out of unix but you can't take the unix out of the boy) but in general it seems pretty stable. Granted the release candidate is "ultimate" and I might find myself dissatisfied with using any version other than their overpriced ultimate, but we'll see.
For that matter, the ONLY barrier to me adopting win7 is price, plain and simple. I have 5 machines that would need upgrading and I don't have $1500+ to spend replacing operating systems that still work ok.

Funny joke, but old, and never actually happened.

I believe in this case, snopes got it wrong. I read it on the internet, so it must be true. :rofl
(I actually use snopes three or four times a day, due to a friend who will not believe other than my above statement.)
