Title: What happened to kill?
Post by: Getback on June 18, 2009, 05:21:09 PM
Pinged a plane a couple of days ago. It was on fire and too far to make it to base. I RTB'd, rearmed and flew another 30 minutes and never got the kill or even an assist. So what happened there? Just curious.

I shot an IL2 the other day, shot his tail off and nothing not even an assist, so I think the Video Game gods were punishing me for all the bombing of the ground ponders I been doing here lately. :D

Perhaps the plane successfully ditched.

That is what you get for playing with your food instead of finishing it. ;)

I've safely ditched while on fire.  No mystery.

Some how I think he was throwing logs on the fire to keep it burning. Next time, I finish him. Although that time I was almost out of fuel.

I once got pinged in an f4U and I could tell by the sound of the ping it wasn't good. Like a dull thud. I look back and I'm on fire. The guy that pinged me pulled off thinking I was dead. I dove down, killed E, belly landed on the main pad and exited safely.

Always keep an eye on the burners. Its very easy for the fire to take you wing or tail off, you hit the ground, but some how live. Iv seen many planes do this or just belly it in and get a ditch. Just because they are on fire doesn't mean you are getting a kill. Throttle back and watch if you are low on fuel. If you see them trying to land and still want the kill then WEP in and blast em.
