At first glance I would say a Polikarpov I-15, but I will have to look it up.

I-153 had a rectractable landing gear, I'd say I-15

There were many versions of this fine aircraft. The POS, A#1POS, and last but not least the final climactic version the TPOS. This doesn't include the subvariants. All of these variants were capable of taking a perfectly capable pilot and turning him into a target drone. If anyone can find pictures of the rumored MFPOS please post them!    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) All of the enemy pilots complemented the aircraft. They said they loved to see it gently caressing the air in there gun sight. They would smile and say "There's a real POS!"

So-called "pilots" That plane did not qualify as a POS in the eyes of it's opponents, even long after it was outclassed.
Maybe y'all have spent too much time as "uberjunkies" to realize that.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

So those markings aren't spanish then?  I didn't say francophile markings.  geezus.  History is what you make it to be.

Dinger dont take me wrong. Indeed they are spanish markings...spanish republican.

I'ts a difference ,for the colors are different ,and after the Civil War some I-15s were kept on the Spanish Air Forces...with the correspondent insignia.

so, that is not an I-15 with spanish Markings...its an I-15 with REPUBLICAN markings. Of course the loyalist faction was the republican (so the official Spanish air force markings were the republican), but the victors were the nationalists...and we could argue all day long about that. Anyway I think you are missing my point. I was not saying that they are not spanish. Read it again "Not exactly", I said. because your explanation was indeed, not exact  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

(BTW My granddad fought in the basque front...in the republican side. So no bias here)

Huhmmm I saw that same photo somewhere in one of my books, and the text on the photw said that the tail marks are nationalist but the roundels aren't repainted yet. in the photo the inner roundel seems to have different color than the outer (yes, I know is in B&W, I mean that the texture seems different)

Will look for that photo&text later, and post if if for one god-damned time I achieve to get my scanner working  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
