Post by: BUG_EAF322 on June 19, 2009, 04:52:20 PM
Today i saw for the first time an Avro Vulcan what a pleasant to see and hear this great old bomber.

By the way the bomber was flown by the pilot who did the first bombrun on the Flaklands.

It was designed as a nuclear bomber it even was painted white to reflect the flash.
I just guess it had something to do with.

Not all had a rejection seat btw.

This was at Volkel Airbase Netherlands.
I believe its flying there today too.

Thanks

I use to see them flying all the time when I was stationed at Offutt AFB NE in the early 80's.  They have a very distinct engine sound compared to US aircraft.  (Brits. had a detachment stationed there.)

beautiful airplane!
couple of questions tho:
1. in the last pic is it just me or does the exhaust nozzle looke kinda bent on the right outboard? I dont think they used thrust vectoring on the vulcan but who knows
2. nvm the cockpit window question already got asked/answered

My guess is they are following the airflow around the tail. Many older aircraft have their engines pointing off-center because of the airflow where the engine is mounted.

Here's an example:

I cant see the pic of the Vulcan but on the other aircraft the engines are clocked in this way to produce a center line of thrust. It would be a point in space behind the aircraft where if you draw a line through each engine they would meet. If you look at a pic of a 727 from above/below it is very clear the #1 and 3 engines point inboard. Not sure if this is what your talking about but thats my 2 cents on the subject.

Love those F-5's. Still think they are one of the sleekest looking airframes ever. The fact that Top Gun (the movie) used them as MiGs,well....more photo ops!

Not exactly, the pic I'm talking about is the last one of the vulcan, the right outboard engine is pointing OUT, atleast from the point of view of the camera, it could be a optical illusion. Just looks rather odd

It's prolly an optical illusion created by the heat from the other engines.  Just a guess...

No illusion, the outer exhaust nozzles are canted outboard. Will post a drawing later.

Those Vulcans are noisy buggers. Used to love seeing them at the RAF Leuchars airshows in the 80s.

'Vulcan 607' by Rowland White about the raids on the Falklands is highly recommended.

The camera is just a 4 years old D50 (nikon) with a amazing 6 milion mega pixels.
Its a bit slow too especially because i do all in RAW.

Its the glass what did it.

I hope next that ill have a D300 faster and better focus better framerate and more pixels so i can crop better.

The glass i used is the 300MM F4 AF-S nikkor with kenko 1,4 converter.
that makes a 420 MM (F5,6) with a 35mm equivalent of 630MM.

sweet, I have a D300 and love it. sometimes it has too many features but, can ever have too much?!  :rock

The D300 is a very great machine and since i love doing the telework i wouldnt want to miss the cropfactor.
Do u also have the grip wich makes it faster?

It has indeed many features but i mosltly just play with the aperture.
The D300 does also have more knobs to do thing for wich i have to go into the menu.
Also a much better display so u can see what ur doing.
Above all it's a Nikon i know the are many good camera's but like the way they work and look.
I'm also pretty contend on the reliability since even this plastic model shows its been rigid the past 4 years.
