With the help of SheGotYa :salute, the next race will be held in the SEA. Same start time as the FSO. We'll be using the Italy map being currently used in Operation Husky.
The race will start from the Vehicle Hangar at A40 in sector 2,14. The finish line will be the maproom at A46 town in sector 3,14. There's lots of hills and valleys along the route on the northwesternern island.
Each participating squad can decide how many they want in jeeps and how many in M3's with vehicle supplies. Do expect some upside down jeeps along the way. First jeep to the town wins for that player's squad.
Plans are being made for the next race in July involving a total jeep race with troops. The objective would be to capture an enemy town first with all town ack and buildings down from the start. This would create a little tactical planning since the 10th troop going in will be the victor player. It's possible for a squad to get three jeeps there first and a second squad jeep getting the "steal".
We had a good initial run last month and all had lots of fun. So, if you want to leave the MA's for a brief time next week. Then come on over for some dirt eating racing!!!!!!!!
-
Can you shoot at other jeeps with 50 cal? Set up like the KotH arena.
-
There are plans for that in future races. Just trying to "grow" the excitement.
-
Right now the killing of jeeps is in with Heavy Metal Sunday. Our intention for the present is just that, racing. As AKKuya implies we might do this in the future as long as we dont infringe on another special event.
-
Could we please start to get a head count on participants?
Squads and individuals are all welcome. Walkons are allowed even with no squad present.
The only thing about not being in a squad is you may not have an M-3 for support if you use your 2 vehicle supplies carried on-board at launch.
I ran the course today and I tipped over only once where I needed a supply to get back on my wheels. The other times I went wheels up and over I was able to get back on my wheels without supplies.
The exact course will be in more detail early this week so practice runs can be made if desired. Time is about 90 minutes.
This race will involve searching, navigation, and jeep knowledge driving skills and plain luck!
-
The 13th Will return with their stable of drivers for round 2. I say 6-10 players. :salute Tuk151

Ah, u want a shot at the title again, hehehehe.

Ah, u want a shot at the title again, hehehehe.
Wants to look under your hood before you run off next time. Meanwhile, we have done some SLIGHT modifications to our jeeps. Should meet standards and templates.... <S> :aok

will try and round up some JG2 . :x

-----------FLASH --------UPDATE-------------READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!
There's been an alteration to the race route. After launching from the VH at A40, the jeep contestants will be traveling north towards the HQ. Jeeps will race by the town at A40 and pass it by completely. Using your clipboard map, jeeps will travel to the spot marked 2,14 on the map first. In the area of the upper part of the number 2 within the circular area will be the train station leading to the HQ. Jeeps will need to approach the station on the east side for the fun part.
Following the train track, the jeeps will weave in and out of the train trussels along the track. Some are only one span and others are up to three spans wide. The track comes to a stop at the HQ plateau. Jeeps will then race to the HQ building itself and make one circle around the structure and then make a straight line to the town at A46. The HQ building will be the one to cast a shadow in the area.
Total time for race will be around 90 minutes. It has been already tested. All competitors are encouraged to drive this route offline to get a feel for the course.
M3's with vehicle supplies are highly suggested. The VH at A40 will remain open for players to re-up in M3's once there supplies are exhausted. M3's are free to follow any course they choose to remain with the jeeps.

Where is the 50 Cal Tuk?
Replaced 50 cal with ridiculous spare tire....
Would luv to see Chappy and gang there... :salute
-
Due to the terrain and length of the course upping some goons with vehicle supplies could be considered. This would help as far as precision placement of supplies for the goon pilots. Thoughts?
-
I like the idea using the Goons for resupplies. Thats brings in scenario of stealing supplies :)
-
Parts of the 325th VFG will attend this one. Not sure of the turn out just yet but 4-6 should show. Will provide better numbers as Friday draws nearer.
I ran about half of this route. Very challenging to say the least. Couldn't find the Train station but followed the tracks and the floating train at 5K, cars smoke and all!! :x Pretty funny bug.
Viper 61
-
Iif you flew the course at 5K you might have missed the originating building for the train.
That will be part of the challenge to find the building from the jeep and as stated above start the weaving in and out of the trestles on the east side.
-
Stealing supplies? If I am on my wheels when I go by an opponent who is upside down I dont think I will be spending time there. I will be booking! LOL.
-
where's the first reststop at? :rock
-
The thing about C-47's being used to drop vehicle supplies for a squaddie in need requires precision in aiming. A few of us AK's are good at this because we practice this ourselves. If the participating squads wants to allocate one squad member to goon duty, then I'll make arrangements to have them open for use.
The stipulation would be that the goon drivers would have to fly back to base for rearm and refuel. If they break any parts on the plane during flight, takeoff, landing, taxiing, and rearming, then they would have to end mission and be assigned an M3 for the rest of the race. The Bomber Hangar would be only open for the first 10 minutes then it would be shut down.
I would need for the squad representatives to post a yea or nay on the use of goons in the race. The use of the goon will be a non-requirement for a participating squad with few racers. It would be an option.
-
where's the first reststop at? :rock
Any clump of trees will be available throughout the race. :D
-
So far, the participating squads are Arabian Knights, 13th MPG, JG2, and 325th VFG.
AKDogg says he will win a second time in a row. Everyone will be eating his dust. This will be your chance to put the dog in the doggiehouse. :D
-
Just gonna post my opinion here. The c47s wouldnt really be needed if your toting 2 supplies anyway. Not to mention those crazy 13MPG guys shooting their 50cals at AK goon busses... You wanted a jeep race, lets have one.. Just my 2 cents.... Tuk151 :salute
-
Was reading the thread, just thought I would toss out another possibility...
What if....
You have the C47s with supplies. Each team is allowed X number of C47s... Maybe 4 or 5... Don't allow the Jeeps to carry supplies, so they must depend upon the C47s if they should flip.
Then... Allow the C47s to ram each other. :D
Imagine the chaos!
-
My post above about stealing supplies was in reference to Goon drops. I like the idea of the Goons over M-3s because with a goon drop a "strategy" would be to steal the supplies from a turned over opponent as they drop down. Remember your right side up and he is not. A goon drop is more visible than a M-3 drop in the woods. Thus stealing them to hamper your turned over opponents. Also precision Goon drops are not easy as stated above. They use up valuable time if dropped to high and are destroyed if dropped to low. Drop the M-3 resupply option as the jeeps carry supplies anyway.
I assume we will all be on the same country channel for this thus good old fashion "dissing" of ones favorite jeep drivers.
The 325th VFG would like to use a Goon for the resupply operation. Also concur with a "1" life for the goon driver with "1" rearming available this would keep goon drivers from just dropping supplies all over the place. This would become worse if several goon pilots did the same thing.
Disable the M-2s on the Jeeps or chaos will happen :noid Or enable kill shooter to eliminate that.
Retain the 2 vehicles supplies per jeep. :aok
Request two scoring tables:
First guy to complete the route: Individual winner.
First 5 guys in from the same squad: Squad victory. (With different squads and sizes in this 5 seems like a good number). Also with using the number "5" a larger squad could develop strategies on racers vs. blockers vs. re suppliers. This would encourage higher turn outs.
Options for next time:
Relay races - base to base to base
Troops into the maproom to capture as stated above - very nice :aok
M-8 races
Really appreciate the CM's setting this up. Should be a lot of fun :D

In response to Viper61 suggestions, alot of what you said are being incorporated in future races. Each race is 4 weeks apart as the current FSO setup runs. We are going through a "trial and error" type of racing.
SheGotYa has already informed me that any race can have killshooter either off or on. The next scheduled race in July will have the ability to shoot other racers. It will be a Death Race for the individual squads competing. Specifics of this will be worked out in time before the race.
So far I have one yea(325th) and one nay(13th MPG) for the use of goons.
Tuk, have you seen me fly a goon? I can make it dance all over the treetops barnstorming all the way. :D When the next race incorporates the ability to fire at friendlies, I'll fly low over the 13th while you're racing at break neck speeds. After I land, we can count how many holes you guys put in me. If you do manage to shoot me down then the next race I'll let you pick the next type of jeep race. :salute
I'm planning a future race that will be implemented on the Uterus map. There are three high 8K bases on that map. This race will be one going downhill off the tops of them. That would be Part 1 of the race. Part 2 would consist of something else to mix thing up. Haven't figured that out yet. Probably be an August or September race.
Keep the suggestions coming.

A little history.
AKShrddr is the originator for the thought of having jeep races in our squad as something fun to do in April of 2009.
AKKaz, AKDogg, AKJrdogg, AKShrddr and myself were sitting around the pool at the motel we were staying in to attend an Air Show in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
At first I thought the idea was a little whimisical. Pondering this thought for a while I really began to see the fun of his thought. Some of the AKs in our squad like this event and some others didnt. You can't please everyone, lol.
AKKuya is the one who thought to try this with the Off Week FSO. So now this is the progression so far. Its in it's early stages so ideas are most welcome to have more involvement. It would be very enjoyable to see about 100 vehicles tearing thru the countryside.
Some info here, AKKuya and AKShrddr are my sons.
-
A-HA!!!!!!!!!!!! All of the AK's are related!!! Its just all one BIG Family!!!! :lol
After this race it would be great to see it listed in the FSO area with squad sign ups and a scenario with rules and such. No rush I know it will come in time.
In time and with numbers i can see squads working on sides towards a common goal like: The first 50 troops into a map room.
There is a lot of fun options that can come from this without descending down into a Heavy GV battle.
-
Of course the AK's are one big family. This is the breakdown. AKKaz is the second cousin on Dogg's stepsister's mother's side. Wxman, Auger and Killz are all identical triplets with Tazz as a half brother and Hoopy in there as thier uncle. JrDogg is actually Dogg's nextdoor neighbor's kid that hangs out with Dogg's family. Raider and MopTop are father and son and are related to Ziff as third cousins. Peppr is related to HiTech and we get special engine overhauls and longer distance ammo(that's a secret and don't tell anyone).
I would try to draw a family tree to further illustrate this but I don't have enough markers to keep up with the criss crossing lines.
:D
-
Only one squad has voted for goons and one squad voted against. I'll have to make the decision for no goons this time. Maybe down the road when there is 10 seperate squads racing and around 70 to 80 racers then one goon per squad might be an option.
Part of the fun is to navigate by land to find your teammate in trouble. Any questions either post them or PM them to me.
-
Kuya , can we get a final route and rules written out today for practice...Tuk151
-
Ok, I'll post some rules. I was trying to keep it simple for the race so I'll keep it simple for the rules.
1) Only a jeep can win the race
2) M3's are strictly for vehicle supplies
3) Race route is to be followed for jeeps only. M3's can maneuver freely.
4) First player to reach finish line wins for the squad. Second player from another squad at finish lines wins second place for squad and so on for third.
5) All racers will be in tower at start of race. When CM texts GO!, then players will launch from hangar.
6) Most important rule is HAVE FUN!!!!
The route will be in the Italy map from the vehicle hangar at A40 north to the 2,15 sector. At the top of the number 2 inside the curve will be a train station. Racers will want to be on east side of station as they pass. The they will follow the train tracks from the station to the HQ. While following the tracks, they will weave in and out under the bridge trussels. The train tracks will come toan end at the top of a plateau. There the racers will race to the HQ building itself and make one complete circle around the building at its base. After completeing the circle then the racers will head straight for the A46 town in sector 3,14. The finish line will be the maproom.
This may seem complicated at first but it's an easy race. The best thing to do is to fly the race first low level to find the train station. Then follow the train tracks to the HQ. Last, notice the rough terrain between the HQ and A46. Then you'll see why M3's will be needed.
Then do the race route by jeep.
:salute
-
Italy Map, A40 vehicle hanger, proceed in a North West North direction and bypass 40 town.
On your map navigate to the number 2 in sector 2-15-1.
Imagine that the top part of the number 2 is a circle ( O ) instead of the 2 that it is. In the center of the imaginary circle in that number 2 is a supply train depot for the HQ.
All jeeps will find this depot and drive on the east side of this building. This is important that if they miss this building they will have to come back south along the track to get on the east side. They will find the railroad track running North from this building. The track has numerous bridge trestles on it's path to HQ. The jeeps will cross under the first bridge east to west, then looking for the next trestle bridge to cross back under that bridge west to east. We will be in essence weaving back and forth not missing any trestles until the end of the track.
At the end of the track is HQ. Circle the large building which is HQ in any direction as long as you at least circle it. After circling HQ proceed directly to A46 Town and drive head first at maximum speed into the map room allowing air bags to deploy.
M-3s can go wherever they are needed with no restrictions at all.

The race times are posted in the HMS logs under AKKuya's Jeep race. The turnout was impressive at 26 racers with many different squads participating.
Many racers dropped out of the race due to the long length of race route. In future races I'll see that they are less than 45 minutes.
Congratulations go out to AKDogg for winning the race. If someone remembers the order of who finished the race, please post. I know the 325th took the second place.
I'd like to thank everyone who participated and hope it was fun for all. I'd also like to think the Heavy Metal Sunday crew of Shegotya and Marshal for officiating the race.
Next race in July will be a capture the flag where ammo will be used. Details will follow closer to the next race.

325th VFG had a great time!!!
<S> to Shegotya, Marshal and AKKuya for the set up and all of the back side support and control it takes to pull something off like this.
325th had 10 starts and 6 finish's. Comments ranged from:
"WOW What a great time" if you finished. tooooo:
"This is stupid" if you wiped out 7 times before getting off of the starting field. :lol
Overall 99% of our guys had a great time and would participate in such an event again. The course was difficult and long and thanks to the resupply drops (unplanned) it allowed many personnel to finish the race that would not have. I personally had a great time and will attend as many of these as I can and as you all plan and conduct.
Concur with the above comments that a 45 min ish race would be about right. 60 min would be fine too. The main issue was the distance more than the long time. Only 2 of the 325th pilots had "pre-flown" the route or had read the route and knew it well enough to lead the rest which you had to have in order to finish this course. As soon as some of our guys rolled and got separated they could no longer follow the leader and got lost and towered out.
Recommendations for next time:
Have a "easier" to understand race course that can be briefed over VOX for the guys that show up last minute. Something more visually easy to see as well while your driving. The train station although challenging to find was to much for many as an example. Again separations formed. Explaining the circle around the HQ building again caused separations. And remember these directions are be called out over the VOX to others as I am racing for my life against AKDogg so there are delays there as well.
There was a "lot" of talk about having a working M-2 on these jeeps. Especially if you were behind. Gun fire would have detracted from this type of race. I'm glad it was turned off.
A shorter course or Multiple shorter runs "Multi-Race" would also interest more personnel I think as well. There are a few of us out there that are pretty good in jeeps, that said if your following these guys and you roll once your out of the race as you can't make up that time unless the leader rolls and that doesn't happen often. So having rematch's every 15 minutes would allow less experienced jeep drivers to "reengage" again. "Heat" Races maybe.... "Relay" races maybe.... The key is to get the less experienced drivers back into the game.
Launching from the tower is the way to go. Don't change that. Having the game clock running to start helps and allows squads to conduct race briefs and get personnel ready prior to launch.
Myself I would like to try a oval track of sorties or "Road Course". Those jeeps are so easy to roll that corning would be pretty funny to watch. Mogul fields and obstacles would also be very funny to watch. I also think we would have a fair amount of guys that would just like to be able to watch and film the wipeouts!! So having "corners" or key points at towers would be helpful as well as it would allow guys to watch from the tower. I know you can't build terrain for this and have to find it. From this "Screenies" will come and could be posted which will attract others I think. Sorry I am a "Marketing" guy at heart.
A series of country sides or channels is going to have to figured out. Everyone on one channel was at the limit of fun last night. Also in my case I have a "squad" channel and "Team Speak" channel running to better coordinate and control. To much chatter on Range VOX about folks pet sheep and such which makes a difficult situation harder. Not sure of a good solution here as this event will attract more "individuals" vs. squads thus "chatter" is very hard to control without sounding like a butt head to someone that doesn't understand.
Guys again a great event!!!! Big <S> to you all and I and others look forward to what you all come up with next time.
WTG AKDogg for winning by a pretty wide margin. His route selection was great last night and better than mine and that is how he won. <S> buddy and I will be on you like white on rice next time!!!

A little more of a breakdown;
The Jeep Race was won by AKDogg, Congratulations!
29 Jeeps started the race with numerous M-3s supporting their squads.
For those who came in without fellow squadmates with M-3 support vehicles now know that you have to be a little conservative for these races. The terrain can send you tumbling every which way very easily. Even taking a turn fast can have you rolling over several times. Popping over a hill can have you catching a lot of air before you hit, and who knows how you will land.
Out of 29 Jeeps that started, 10 made it all the way. Congratulations again to AKDogg, who is still undeafeated and the other nine who finished.

Shegotya and Viper 61 has some excellent ideas and we can incorporate them as well.
Presently AKKuya is working on the next event which will be even better yet.

I spent a couple of hours today working on the July race. It will be 5 short races with 3 of them using live ammo on each other. Each race will be a capture the flag using jeeps only. No M3's. each race will last from 10 to 25 minutes or so.
More details will follow in a couple of weeks when I start a new thread.
Alot of what you said Viper is true. These races are being done on a trial and error basis. Over time they will have the kinks ironed out.
I do want to state that these races are not designed to discourage anyone from participating in future races. It is helpful to have some squad mates to help. Also, to touch base in the forums for updated info. Practice the races offline beforehand. These suggestions will make the experience much better.
Myself and AKbmzawy will be keeping the forum post up to date as much as possible.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to post them or PM me. Same goes for any suggestions. There will be a PT boat race in the future. Details of this will be worked out over time.

This was an amazing race.
I have to admit that at times, I almost broke my joystick trying to keep from flipping & rolling...
I will definately attend the next event. Probably not in the shooting part unless we go in 2 man teams so you have a shooter on board. I definately can't drive a jeep and shoot at the same time.
WTG to AKDogg!!! You have some sort of "mojo" in the jeep Brother!!!
Thanks all for setting it up. I will definately be back as long as I am not pulled away for work.

The tactics of the race is up to the squad. If a squad wants to gun n run that's up to them. If a squad has 6 members participating, it will take 4 jeeps with troops to capture. Risk is what will make it fun. :D

TY all, was fun. Wasn't sure if I was gonna win that one. For awhile it was neck and neck between viper and I. The I rolled it and dropped back to 4th. I then decided to take a different route then the rest and it payed off big time. Shaved 5 mins off because I was about 2 mins behind the leader and then ended up 3 something ahead, hehehehe. :devil :x

Hahaha!!! I was trying to figure that one out. Thought you found a quicker way when the supps came. Very nice move!!! :aok

Never got 1 supply from anyone, or at least use 1 from someone. I only used 1 supply from my own jeep, hehehe.

2 Things.
First. This is not a true FSO Event.
Should this thread be better in another catagory?
Second. Should we keep this same schedule?
Personally, I think we should have them more often, unless the boredom factor sets in.

You can move it to the HMS forum if you'd like? No problems with my team if you chose to do so. Off FSO night for me is ok to help as long as RL has no plans and the arena is available. If the AK's have any ideas or any squad for that matter have any GV events you would like to run Marshal and I will run your idea (give or take a tweak or two if needed) on the Blitzkrieg part of HMS. I can see about doing it on the off FSO nights but, we have a locked time slot on the 1st. and 3rd. Sunday every month.
Lemeno if we can help.

I could always run it to if U or marshal weren't available. Problem with that is I won't be able to participate and then I lose my Championship, lol.
-
Jeep Race Blogs:
Although not a typical FSO event it does operate in the FSO off weeks. I recommend keeping the Blogs going here so that squads can plan it into their operations. More personnel are likely to see and read it here than some place else.
AKKuya:
Like your ideas for the next Jeep races. <S> Just so you know the last Jeep race still comes up in conversations between us "racers" in the other arenas. We all had a ball. :aok Keep doing what your doing and the numbers will grow.

Being a tower start and since the fields don't close all you have to do it type out the GO command open fields and go yourself for a race it won't be so bad but, if there was any other settings it would be difficult. WTG on that win again!

I am a CM too, so those other settings are not a problem. I just wanted to be able to participate. There is a CM rule that we don't participate the event we are hosting. At least that is what I was told and reason why I don't fly in the SatKOTH as I am the Host for it.
