Title: Film Viewer Trouble
Post by: Strip on June 20, 2009, 12:06:40 PM
After film viewer loads (looks like it loads oka) I select file-open to play a film and it closes the whole program.

Tried compatibility mode (all of them)

Tried Run as Adminstrator

If I select a film to play with the "open with" it loads and goes haywire. Different buttons blinking, screen flickers slightly and other assorted things.

Any ideas? Vista 32-Bit......AMD processor

Is it safe to assume you installed the game somewhere besides the "Program Files" folder?
Is it safe to assume the current game is installed and you are not executing an older version of the film viewer?
Is it safe to assume the game is completely installed?  The film viewer will not work without the game.

Yes to all of the above.

Does the game work?  Are the films from older versions of the game?

Game runs fine...

AH2 and film viewer have all been downloaded and installed since last patch.

Strip,

This happened to me.  Un-install the game & re-download it to a new folder under your C drive called "Games".

But are the films you are trying to view from an older version of the game?  Or are these new films just created from the recent game installation?

Are you running Norton, or McAfee?

The film viewer and the game use the same basic engine to display everything.  Unless the films got corrupt by an anti-virus program, they should work fine if the game also works fine and the films were generated by the latest version of the game.

Running Norton antivirus....perhaps the problem lies here?

You havent released anything since the game was installed so I am sure its all the latest version.

Norton is a no go.

Thats really a blanket statement...

I have had three computers with AH2 and Norton AntiVirus of which two worked perfectly.

Norton and Vista is a terrible combination.  There have been a ton of problems with that mix.

Sorry Strip, I was in a hurry.

Norton & Mcafee(SpElINgZ?) have always been a pain in the rear for me.  Even our tech guy at work says to get rid of Norton because it will only gie you headaches if you plan on playing any online gaming.  Like Skuzzy said; "Norton and Vista is a terrible combination."... I can attest to that.

I went with AVG and I haven't had any problems.  http://filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/

If Norton works for you, then keep it.

Norton + Vista has been problematic since Vista started shipping.  Anyone using that combination is going to have problems with something.  If not today, then tomorrow.

Unfortunately, most people will attribute problems they run into as being related to Vista and not realize Norton is the problem.  While Vista has its own set of issues, Norton does not help.
