I was over on the Warbirds BBS, and picked up conversation on the N1K2-J Shinden-kai.
According to Kiwi, there is a new book out in Japan on the N1K2, by Kyokuchi Sentouki, that has inflight testing data from Kawanishi itself. From what he says its a newly published book and runs about 1700 Yen ($17 if the exchange rates I got from web were correct, pretty cheap).
Shinden-kai

ISBN: 4-05-602064-7
Unfortunately it is in Japanese Only. But I figured that you could probably get one of the Japanese players (isn't Mitsu Japanese?) too translate the pertinent sections of the book.
Here is a link to a Japanese bookstore chain in the US that supposedly can get the book. (considering getting it myself if I can get someone to translate it for me.)

They have an online ordering page too, but again... the langauge barrier.

If you get a copy, would appreciate a photocopy of the data sheets (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Was that the little push-pull job that 'mimicked' the large Dornier model?

It's a typo. The Shinden was the Japanese canard fighter in development, the Shiden was the N1K. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
S'ok, I knew what you meant. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

The N1K2 was the Shiden, a late war conventional prop lane. The ShiNden was a pusher-propeller plane that could achieve speeds in excess of 440 MPH. It was tough, manuverable, and it's only real opponent would have been the F8F Bearcat.

Shiden = Violet lightning
Shinden = Magnificent lightning
I think.

Not to disrespect your opinion, but where did you get that information on the Shinden? My material suggests it was only a prototype, had only 3 flights, and only flew for a total of 45 minutes?
Sources of course vary, so I'm wondering if I have something wrong here?

"Shiden" or "Shiden Kai"?

Yes, that is the Kyushu J7W1 Shinden.
As for "George"...
N1K1-J Shiden (Violet Lightning)
N1K2-J Shiden Kai (Violet Lightning Modified)
-
Keeeeeee-rect!
That is the Shinden! 2,130 hp, 4x30mm cannons, 465 mph top speed (estimated). Buff killer for sure!
-
Kieren -
I didn't say it was operational. It was a late-war plane.:}

Then where does the "tough and manuverable" comment come from? Did an American plane come by and dogfight it during the 45 minutes of test flying? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
-
It was a typo. I was speaking of the N1K2-J "George" that we already have in the game.
I just can't type or even spell in English, give me a break when it comes to Japanese please (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)
