My brother bought himself a 2010 Mustang and I was thinking of getting him a model of a P-51 that he can put in his car. But the thing is that I don't have much experience buying model airplanes and thought you guys might be able to help me out. Since he will probably keep it in his car I think I should get a one piece model (not something that you have to build) and it would be better if it would be made out of aluminum.
You guys have any idea where I can get something like that?
thanks
P.S. preferably under or around $50

I bought my 11 yr old son his first model the other day. Its a p-51 buts its a "quick build" or something like that. Kinda like the snap tite models we had when we were kids, but WAY better.
It it held together with screws for the major stuff, and its fully painted and decalled. Took him about 20 minutes to put together.
Surprisingly, it looks REALLY sharp... the old snap tite models when I was a kid looked pretty cheezy. Here is a pic of the model from the Testors website, and it looks JUST like it when its built:

I would think it would hold up pretty well... you could even spent 15 minutes and put it together for him if you wanted. It cost about $15.
If you are looking for a prebuilt die cast plane though... go here:

If you want something durable, go with one of the die-cast makers - Corgi, Hobby Master, etc. all make multiple versions of the P-51 in sizes from 1/144 up to and including 1/18 (plastic toys at Wal-mart, etc.).
Examples of on-line places to order them are:
www.flyingmule.com
www.badcataviation.com/
http://onmarkint.netfirms.com/onmarkint.com/static/index.php
e-bay usually has a bunch of them as well.

i would imagine it can't be too big, since he's keeping it in the car. look in the toy dept. of your local stores. they have smoe nice ones.
did he get the gt, a shelby, or just a plain-jane mustang? i've seen the 2010's at winner ford up the street from my shop, and find it to be absolutley beautiful.
on a side note.......from pictures i'd seen, i was anxious to see the 2010 camaro. i saw one yesterday at the gas pumps. it was black. it was also somewhat dissappointing.
good lucjk, and tell him congrats!!

AKP could you tell me how big it is and what's it made out of? I think I'm going to end up getting that one

hmm.....do you think it would survive a fall, because I actually was hoping for something made out of metal. But if it's as strong as...say carbon fiber or fiberglass that would be good. Because I don't want it to fall a part if it falls off on the 1st turn, if you know what I mean. thanks for all the info

Hey there squadie,
I collect pre built diecast WWII models, ( to date i have about 40 ) Corgi makes some really nice, and extremely well done models. I happen to have 2 different models of the P51, 1 is Brit, the other is a 51D " Hurry Home Honey " Its 1:72 scale. All metal, and comes with a stand.
I started collecting these things with my son, and now its just a horrible addiction.
Ill email you a picture tommorow when i get home from work.
Heres a link to my favorite place to buy them. The photo may not be the best, but the quality and detail is very well done.

I wonder if Bodhi has any diecast 51s. I bought a 38 from him awhile back, it's great.
