Title: Every have a night like this?
Post by: Sincraft on June 21, 2009, 11:27:08 PM
Lately, with a failing stick, I've stubbornly been flying and have been getting frustrated.

Time for a new stick.

But until then, I calibrated the heck out of thing to alleviate my up/down axis woes..

So.  Tonight I log in, get into a few fights...only to leave once again frustrated by some strange behaviors.  Not the stick this time!

Maybe it's convenient lagging, maybe it's invincible rear cockpits, or whatever..

But in 4 sortes in one film, the following occured.
-Sorte one: invicible spit hos me from above, completely by surprise...plane is in 100 pieces, he flies on.  I parachute out, watch him ho not ONE but TWO more people and continue to fly on...with, not even a trickle of smoke.
-Sorte two: As I can not pull hard on the stick due to issues with the stick, I am low on the deck fighting more scissor style.  I shoot down one red toon, only to get 'collided' by something seemingly invisible , falling and parachuting.  Nothing around me.  WELL clear of the debris
-Sorte three: Vulched at the af by a wirble in the woods.  Sitting on the edge of the woods, well within ack range.  So I figure ack must be down.  Seconds later while sitting in the hangar, I see tons of ack firing at bombers.  Somehow this guy has managed to go undetected..sigh.
-Sorte four:  Every round of ammo into the rear of a Tphy, seemingly passing straight through his canopy.  I wait till I get really close this time, shoot just above his gentle turn for what I expect to see a nice hit, and to watch my roudn pass through him once again.  The guy didn't even try to evade at the end because he knew something was up with one of our connections.

Now when I get offline , check my pingplotter I'm not seeing anything unusual (10-20%) loss.  Used to be 30-40% on two hops, and I would have landed that sorte 4 kill 95 times out of 100 for sure then.
In game I showed not netstatus lag issues or spike (other then when I spawn)

I replayed the video and it was like I was shooting at thin air.  You could see the bullets hitting all the trees around this guy above and below him, but no sparks.  Guy must have been laughing at this.

The only time I saw one spark is when a tracer round hit.  Seems like only the tracers count, then they show and animation of multiple round hitting.  Odd math.

Anyway, had to gripe.  Very frustrating night.  Hope some of you have been there too.  :x

I think its a conspiracy.

My night: AAR
Sortie one: up at 85 double spawn battle, am immediately killed by MD68 camping from behind spawn.

Sortie two: up at 85 double spawn battle, am immediately killed by MadCap71 camping from behind spawn.

Sortie three: Up a hvy Jug from a base 1.5 sectors away from spawn battle, arrive over battle, bomb MD68 and Madcap71 along with a third camper. As I rtb, I get pm'd by both, md68's pm was a short "one liner" text about how I suck. Madcap's however was an epic, 2 min long "Drdeath style" vox rant. I was laughing so hard I realized I wasn't recording it until 1/2 way through, I quickly stumbled over the keyboard for the ALT R. The pm conversation ranged from How I suck as a person, to how my squad sucks, to how I had no "right" to bomb him, to finally at the end, a self promotion of his squad and why its better then mine. Throughout this incoherent rant were various comments about his score and conspiracy theories.

After that I went to the DA and had an absolute blast fighting Sunsfan(<S>). Most fun ive had in weeks!

I had rubber bullet syndrome when the loss of power thing happened.
could not exit the sortie. i had to tab out to windows  to quit the game.
I have noticed a great deal of lagg lately though. I try my best to avoid the HO and i look up to see
the nme plane around 500 plus feet over me and pass me and its like i count to 5 and im in the tower.
that has only happened twice but it kinda sucks. I now try to adjust for the lagg by dodging the HO sooner.
The game ain't perfect but all in all it runs well for me most of the time.

I just got a new xtreem 3d pro and it usually works great for 3 or 4 months till i burn out the hat switch but this one
i have had for less than a month and i have to re calibrate every sortie. <-----sucks real bad.

guess I'm gonna try a different brand...
just can't wrap my head around that x52, lots of cash for it and i hear a lot of the same issues......
oh well

good luck sir

over n out

Also somewhere in their he made a paranoid comment about how I spied to find him and how the rooks and the bish couldn't keep his squad "pined down". Throughout this incoherent rant were various comments about his score.

i noticed loads of warping last night, seemed like every sortie someone was warping bad...on the up side a 38 warped 200 infront of my guns so i dispatched him to 38 heaven...
then rtb`d to land 4 kills and lost udp on final aproach  urrrgggg
then it was 270/200 to get back in to orange grrrrrr
popped into blue and had a bit of fun so i didn`t let it get to me..

I know the feeling, Sin!  I call them "rubber bullet days/nights"!

Like you said, no net status problems, obvious warps, etc., but my frame rate has started going to hell whenever their are more than a handful of planes in the area.  I've had to turn object detail and ground detail distance settings down as far as possible to compensate and I NEVER had to do that until the last couple of weeks.

The other symptom seems to be an inordinately slow response when clicking to change fields, call up the roster, go to the hangar or back to the tower, call up E6B, spawn, end sortie, etc.  And I'm talking delays in response from 3 to 15 seconds -- indicating a significant disparity in data exchange and video feedback.

That's also when formerly fatal shots would inflict no damage.  And while I have not reviewed film to see bullets passing through aircraft like they were ghosts, I have seen hit "sprites" come off of targeted planes in numbers that would have otherwise vaporized them, leave them to fly off without shedding parts or trailing smoke or vapor.

It isn't a constant condition, but when it does, the effects are much worse than just "having a bad day".  The first couple of times, I chalked it up to just that -- a bad day.  But there is definitely a huge inconsistency in how the game performs from day to day or even hour to hour -- far beyond the variances due to load and demand.

If I am remembering correctly, this seems to have started after the outage for the AT&T ISP upgrade.  At least that is what I would check out first -- if I were Skuzzy.

So you're not the only one, Sincraft.

I am also having wierd things happen that have not happened before the outage. Like when i key up vox i get a 1 sec. or so screen freeze and i'm also having frame rate problems all of a sudden. These things have never happened before.

every time I up I get shot down....seems normal to me, though I do notice a few more hiccups in my frame rate, but I attribute that to carbonated beverages.

That's funny...I killed them both the other night while their squad was trying to horde a v base. It was me v 5 or 6 of them. Nonetheless I killed md68 and the goon (can't remember who it was) and the rest took off running. That same sortie I got md68 again aswell as madcap. md68 was upset and was PMing me. Madcap also PMed me but complimented me on my flying and left it at that. The V-base was saved and the night rolled on.

to me it's funny when it's on open channel, or 200. when they feel the need to start pm'ing me, because they think they're safe that way.....it pisses me off, so i do that.

Well you've answered your own question about these strange happenings.  The packet loss will cause all them problems and it doesn't matter if it's 10% or 70%, loosing packets means your view of the battlefield or battleairspace is not what is currently happening because your front end is not being updated to current time because of the loss of packets carrying the required data to update your front end.  I might not be technically correct but I think I'm real close.  You should direct this in the tech support forum and ask the tech Guru Skuzzy for a more detailed explanation of the cause and effect of your packet loss.  Be prepared to include an updated snapshot of your pingplotter results with your inquiry.

All the Best...

LOL I got madcap71 back for you Stod he was buzzing a V base the other night and dropped a bomb on my M3, so I up a wirb and before I got set up the bomb was falling so I tower. Well i up and he drops on the hanger and gets me again. So ok,  I get the PM from him about how I was a tard for towering and on and on and on I told him to stop whining he got 2 kills and he goes on with the insults, and I have enough and tell him, I'm not a retard I'm actually a Firefighter and I spend most my days and nights saving retards like you (which I say out of frustration). And then There is a long pause and then I get "volunteer or Paid" like it matters, I send back Paid 10 year Captain and I do this for stress relief but its not working tonight (i'm a little pissed, I'm not use to being disrespected). Well his attitude changes and I guess he realizes that there's a real person on the other end, and now I get salute's from him. But it goes to show you just never know who your calling names so I think that before you send something you might regret you should stop and think about it.  :salute Everyone!

That's funny b4buster doesn't tell everbody that he pm'ed me first. And you know you did,it's people like you who just tell half the story to make yourself look good that ruin the game.
