So as some you know and many don't I am a commercial fisherman in Miami. Part of the perks of my job is finding cool stuff to put in my fish tank. Anyway stone crab season ended not too long ago, and while pulling all my traps for the off season, i found a tiny octopus stuck to the top of a trap, so I grabbed him and stuck him in my fish tank. Anyway he has finally gotten big enough that he is exploring the tank and coming out in the open so I finally got some pics of him.

looks awesome :aok
just wondering, how big do they grow?
-
:noid You should probably check to make sure it is legal to keep him :noid
No one here wants you to get in trouble with anyone for keeping an octupus you caught. At least make sure it isn't an endangerd species or new species or anything like that. If it was a new species then you could name it just like if you disvovered a new element :D.

I am fully lic. to capture Atlantic aquarium species. And no these are no endangered in fact people eat them alot. you can buy them canned near the anchovies at the supermarket. I think they taste like rubberbands
-
Ok, just I've seen people do some stupid crap like illegaly taking an animal home.

Make up your mind!!??!!
Lemme guess.. 'Pat'?
:rofl
Seriously, tho.. Very cool. Judging from some of the background, you must have a pretty big aquarium. Got any other pics available?
-
If it was a "he" what would you have named it? :D. When it gets big enough we should make fried calamari.
-
I dont really know whether it is a he or a she. I'll have to read about them and see how you tell.
Looked between its legs but just couldn't tell :lol
i'll take some pics of the tank.....one miute

That is really cool. Thanks for sharing with us.
I can't help but think that more of those fish will be a tasty snack for Legs as he gets bigger :D
-
Very cool CaptFish.. :aok
-
Very neat! You might want to make sure it can't get out of the tank though, I was reading about them and they called them "escape artists" and how they've been known to get out of sealed tanks and end up like beef jerky on the floor.
-
Cappy showing his… nvm :)
I need Cappy to come to my house and help me with my tank. All my salt water fish friends die :cry

Its Evil Eye
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/captfish/pus1.jpg)
It is a smart little bugger. you can tell when it moves how it is studying everything. Recently it shows up at exactly the same time and sticks to the glass and stares at me til i feed it. That's how I was able to get the photo.

That's what I was about to say. Saw on a show once an octopus unscrew the jar it was in, climb out of the tank, slime it's way across the ship's deck and slip back into the ocean.
wrongway
-
:aok Looks like Nimo already wants out of the tank! :lol
-
Lol, no they are just camera shy. The octopus is still a little small to mess with anything exept the chromis, and they're cheap.
But I'm sure he'll be looking for more soon
-

Its Evil Eye
Apparently Octopus have eyes which are very similar to humans. Although they evolved separately, evolution stumbled across the same chemicals etc to make the eye work. (I think i heard that on a show called "what we still don't know", which was on the history channel)
-
I guarantee that Octo will eat every fish (well maybe not the puffer) you have in there at its earliest opportunity. It will also make an escape, unless you have made appropriate precautions already. As I posted in your vid post, I've always wanted to try one, but could never devote the tank space and time. Let us know how he fares from time to time.
Jenks
-
the tank is sealed so getting out would be pretty hard, but from what I have heard I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it did. I'm sure he will start eating other fish. if that happens I may stick it ib its own tank I have another 60 gal with nothing in it now.
-
when you clean the tank be careful not to disturb the C-47 site - its probably a protected war grave :salute
-
LOL, no c-47 there is an F6F. they suspect it's butch O'hares lost hellcat, unfortunately it cant be explored due to the horrible sea monster that protects it.... :lol
-
That's pretty cool... They're supposedly one of the smartest animals in the seas. Post some more pics when Legs get's bigger!
