LESS FRICKEN RICOCHETS!!!!!!
There are ricochets because you are hitting them in the wrong place. What is wrong with modeling how HE rounds bounce off of sloped armor?
-
well he could be complaining about the AP rounds bouncing off the side of m-3's fired from tigers, i have had them bounce off the window frame from my tiger, at the very least you should be ably to blow the drive wheels off an m-8 if not killing it outright yet they sometimes drive right by no damage whatsoever , i have hit m-3's with 5 or 6 shots of AP from a tiger in the sideplates and watched the rounds bounce off, one time bouncing off to kill a jeep right next to it! that was funny!! :x

Tec...you know I'm bring this up as many times as i can from now on, right? :lol

The damage model for GVs is not right. Ricochet with AP but every aircraft round penetrates? AP ricochets off of M3s? It ain't right. But it can be fun.
-
It takes about 8 85mm AP rounds to kill a wirble as well

You gets lots and lots of ricochets when you straff a tank.

My IL-2s mow Panzer down like they are made of paper confetti. But just watch out for zees iron clad wirbel. :x
Goes to show you what a great armor plating air is.

And a Xbox controller! :D

And a Xbox controller! :D
You can hook those up to the computer, though, why would you when you can put your hands on your joystick?

ya know... sometimes armor works. :aok
Just because a certain AP round can penetrate X amount of armor at Y range doesnt mean that it will always happen. The angle of impact, the range of the shot, a bit of luck, or maybe a hit on the most protected part of the vehicle can all lead to a deflected hit. This isnt laser tag, ya know.
Accept it. Then adapt. Then over-come. Easy stuff. ;)
-
The only time my round ricocheted was when I was shooting at shore batt.
-
Its all up to you, hit them in the right spot with the right angle and it won't bounce.
Hit them in the wrong spot at the wrong angle and they'll bounce every time.
GV model is TOO good, that's the problem.
-
HVAP is the answer. To everything.
While we are talking about damage modeling....
FIX THE R2800!!! :furious :furious :furious :furious

More first shot kills...for me! :D

Quoted for truth. Also good tankers usually only expose to fire the surfaces of the given tank that offer the most protection to them. For example the front of a Tiger produces a lot of richocets.

Regarding ricochets off non armored targets like M3s. It was my impression that the game does not have a "penetrated a non-vital part of target and did no fatal damage" type of graphic sprite; it just uses the ricochet graphic. So when you see a "ricochet" off the M3 windshield, for example, it really means the shell just passed through the windshield and continued on it's merry way without fatally damaging the M3?
Of course, against armor, especially sloped armor, it's realistic to get ricochets. I've even seen war footage of it. That's the whole point of armor: to prevent penetration, which means the warhead either blows up/disintegrates or bounces off to somewhere else.
Always try to aim for right angles and thin armor. So, for example, don't try to penetrate the thick front mantel of the Sherman turret, hit the side or rear of the turret in the middle so the penetration angle is 90 degrees. To see fewer ricochets you have to learn where to hit each target and at what angle and with what kind of shell.

They ricochet off me as much as those I shoot at them. Works for me.

GV model is quite primitive in AH, i think, comparing with more "ground warfare" oriented games. Calling it "too good" is a bad joke.
Relating to ricochetes, it looks like AH only check angle and decrease penetrating power accordingly. In reality, its significantly more complex process. You will never see pistol bullet bounced from papper, even at 0.0001 deg hit.

always pack a few HE rounds just for Troops, Jeeps, M3s and M8s :aok

Quoted from HiTech:
You can not see a preview of what has been for many years.
Really just look at that film, we are doing the same thing, armor thickness, slowing of bullets, multiple penetrations, angle of impact.
It even happens that we also make a different damage shape to describe the damage model.
HiTech
This is what he is referring to:
I would like to wish for this damage model, I am sure most of y'all have seen it and have drooled over it too:

This ( to me ) seems to be the most accurate damage model anyone can ask for
Calling the GV damage model primitive is like calling a bacterium simple.

I well be happy to keep the ricochets for a shorter spawn drive. I want to spawn up and start shooting other tank by 3rd gear.

I've taken down my share of wirbles in IL-2s, they made the mistake of looking the other way :D They do seem to be a bit tough to get through, though. Their armor, that is.
I've also had a 25H's 75mm round bounce right off a panzer before. I swear my angle was perfect and the round hit right where the turret meets the hull. Pissed me off, I decided 'to hell with it!' and augered into the little monkey :P

I've also noticed that it's harder to kill a wirbelwind or flak panzer with tank shells than it is to kill a panzer. That always confused me since they have the same chassis and the flaks don't even have the skirts. But then I figured that the panzer is full of shells that can blow up and the flaks are not, so rounds that penetrate the panzer chassis can kill it immediately, while those penetrating the flaks chassis might not. That's the way I rationalize it anyways.
