Title: The new beta
Post by: Rich46yo on June 23, 2009, 01:33:33 AM
Why do I get the feeling this new, coming beta release is going to be a lot bigger then just a few new EWA aiplanes and a typhie re-doo?

Were talking a major graphics revision when they talk "core changes" correct? Think maybe when they are swapping cores they will find a TU-2 at the bottom of some Siberian Lake? :uhoh

By ''core changes'' I think they are talking about the new lighting effects and terrain.

Mensa has trouble with icons anyway with that lazy eye. Try not to say anything to him about it or he will throw his peg leg at you.

Question for HTC since the post says it will be a separate download.

Can I copy and paste my (settings), (sounds), (ahiiterr), (maps), (sights), and (cache) folders from the current Aces High II folder, into  the Beta installation folder like I would on a clean AH2 install?

Remember that one Pizza map with the navy base in heavy clouds? Furballs zooming in and out of those are a riot. And the point blank shootouts between CV groups in the fog? just to much fun! :aok

Considering the state of the economy and that the next version will be sandboxed in an open beta arena first. I'm betting HiTech is addressing how not to blow out as many low end PC's as possible. Personaly I would like a switch to turn off the eye candy and the terrain back to 2D 16 or 256 color. It's not like you can walk into the buildings and buy a beer, get laid or chop down the trees and watch them fall.

Heck the cast iron sheep in the medows dont even have fishnet stockings on........  :x

The new version/patch will have that option. You can easily turn the high end terrain on and off as you wish.

As far as the sheep go,  each one is branded with the HTC logo, made of indestructible space age materials which help it conduct enough energy to flip you over or kill you on contact. If you touch one your done.

Most things will copy and remain functional.  The cache folder won't do anything.  There is no more caching in the next version.  Skins will be different as well.  There will now be two sets of skins.  Instead of one set of skins that gets down-sampled, either a high-res set or a low-res set will be downloaded according to how your video is configured.  The current skin files will be compatible as the the high-res skins.

High res skins?  Awesome, does that mean some of the older models in 256 have been redone to 1024?

That's good news, and thanks for replying.    :rock  Re-mapping everything is a major hassle.
