I suggest you give a Yak-1M or Yak-3 the Nieman Normandie paint scheme. They chose that plane over everything the Soviets offered, including the Spitfire IX.
-
Of course I assume you mean the late series Yak-3's with the VK107A engine that is in the Yak-9U. Right ? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Well verm your SOL with the vk107 yak-3.. it never existed outside a test plane or two.
HOWEVER.. look at the list of what they DID fly..
Yak-1M,
Yak-7B,
Yak-4,
Yak-9M
Yak-9T
Yak-9 (perhaps Yak-9U also)
Yak-3
Yak-3P (with 3x20mm cannons)
Is there any planes there that MAYBE CATCH YOUR EYE?
<hehe>
(maybe start a new "bring this to AH" campaign?)
-
Yeah, they were a cool unit. Lost a lot of guys fighting the Germans in Russia. When the war ended, Stalin said to let them choose any plane they like, then let them fly them home as a gift of thanks. The French unit all flew their Yak-3s home. It must have been a cool sight, watching 50-some Yakovlevs arriving in France (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Yes, bring on minor powers markings on fighters and bombers.

How about an Italian P-39!
-
How about an Italian bomber, the BR.20 - in Japanese markings!

Sorrow, there was only a single (maybe two I don't remember) prototype of the Yak3 with the VK108 engine, but from the sources I have read, there were production Yak-3's with the 107.
The sources I have seen, say that the Yak-3 originally used the 105 due to shortages in the 107, but just similar to the Yak-9U, once engines were available they switched over.
Now how many were made (only reference I have seen says 100 produced), and when seems to be in question (some sources say prior to the end of the war, others say just after the war), no arguements there.
If you have some better data, I would love to see it, since I agree that its a murky subject.
Mostly I was just kidding, since I honestly never expect to see it in the game.

No better data really verm...
but to be honest while the velociraptor would be fun to fly, imagine what the last plane on the list (yak-3P) would be like in AH....
And it both flew in combat, had aces, and was well mass produced. Who cares if it only had a vk-105 !!! It would be a mosquito with a sting the size of a broadsword!
