Adding the Mosquito FB.MkVI Series 2 would bring one of the most versatile aircraft of WWII to AH, yet at the same time it would not be unbalancing. It would be a challenge to survive in, especially with things like the Fw190D-9, La7, P-51 and Typhoon hunting it, and at the same time it could inflict severe damage to the enemy. Used properly the extremely clean lines of the Mosquito would make it difficult to catch. For example, the top 3 fighters in AH would all have difficulty catching it. The F4U-1C would have the best shot, but after diving 5,000-10,000ft the Mosquito would probably be going as fast or faster than the F4U-1C and its extremely clean lines would cause it to decelerate at a slower rate, once at max sustainable speed the F4U-1C (or 1D) would gradually overtake the Mosquito. The N1K2 and Spitfire MkIX both lack the speed needed to catch the Mosquito unless they get a good dive on it or manage to cut it off via a vectored intercept. Things like the P-51, Typhoon, Tempest, La7, Bf109G10 and Fw190D-9 would all be able to catch it fairly easily.
The Mosquito FB.MkVI's roll rate and turn rate would make it very challenging to use as a fighter, but it would be possible to have some successes with it in the fighter roll. For ground attack the Mosquito would be ranked right up there with the P-38L, P-47D-30 and F4U-1C.
I know that it was not a success in WB, and I can't honestly say that it will be more of a success here, but I feel that with its correct ammo load (What I've found so far points towards the ammo load I listed in the stats) it would gain a small dedicated following much like we have for the P-47 and P-38.
I know that if it is added it will be one of my main rides, if not my main ride altogether. I have previously been requesting a late war British fighter that would have to be a perk, but I have concluded that I would enjoy the Mosquito FB.MkVI Series 2 much, much more. For my money, the Mosquito FB.MkVI Series 2 is my most desired addition to AH.
Thanks for your consideration.

Agreed
Tilt
Also with a Bomber only version (FB had different wind screen and no bomb sights)
-
if we get the mossie i want delayed fuse bombs for it
and for the fw-190 f8 it used them too
-
Easily my favourite RAF plane. And it only took them 10 months to design it!!
-
Tilt,
I think the bomber version we should get is the Mosquito B.MkXVI. Its faster than the Mosquito FB.MkVI Series 2, and it carries twice the bombload of the B.MkIV. Given AH's 1944 plane set I don't think the unarmed MkIV would be fast enough, whereas the unarmed B.MkXVI might just be fast enough to work well.
Then again I could be smoking something and the B.MkIV would be great whereas the B.MkXVI would need to be perked.

This would be a great addition to the plane set.
PS It was not so popular in WB because there was a bug in the damage model and the pilot's viewpoint was placed chest-high. I doubt HTC will make either mistake.
-
Funked,
Yeah, I forgot about that. My roommate wouldn't use it, even though he like its performance, because he couldn't see squat out of it. The other night while we were discussing the Mosquito that issue came up so I dug out all my references and looked at photos with people in the cockpit to see where the pilots view should be. Our conclusion was that WB had the view way, WAY too low.
I didn't know about the damage model problem, could you elaborate on it?
So far we have the WB Mosquito VI have too little ammo and a pilot view that is much too low as causes for it not being used.
Now, I'm not saying that the Mosquito FB.MkVI Series 2 would enter the top 5, or even top 10, aircraft in AH, but it WOULD get used.

No matter where the enemy was firing from, the horizontal stabilizer was always the first thing to be damaged, and it would usually fall off after one or two hits.
-
heh, heh, you could even use the RAF serial codes HT-C for the Mosquito too (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Sounds like the 190 one-ping-engine-ded problem
How's that as a good thread hijacking? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
P.S: I like the MOssie FB.VI too. And I would like it here (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).

Mossie is cool. The FB version would be the most versatile and therefore the most interesting for the gameplay. And if it's possible to add the 57mm Molins cannon, the Tsetse (which is based on MkVI) would be in, too.

This is a must plane for 1.08
Pretty Please!!!!!!!!!!!

Fighter version and bomber version for 1.08. We have a need for Mossie speed.
-
Agreed also,
In WB it would have been a superb addition except for the "glass elevator" damage bug which would fall off in touch shots at very long range, and in the poor cockpit view.
A case was made that it should have the external bomber view enabled to compensate but that was never done. The cockpit view is certainly nowhere close to the picture that was posted!
If it wasn't for those issues, it would be quite popular in WB. Assuming these mistakes aren't repeated, it would be a dream to have in AH.

RR299 is a T Mk3 produced at Leavesdon between oct 44 and july 45 (most likely early 45)
Its a dual control trainer.
the HTE id is fictitiuos.
This plane first flew with NO 51 OTU (operational training unit) out of Cranfield then by 114 squadron in Aden.
It was the last Mossie to fly for the RAF in 63, after which it passed to civilian hands.

Tilt,
I wasn't actually saying that the image was a Mosquito FB VI. That was simply the nicest image I could find of a Mosquito to jazz up my request. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Wonderfull little plane as long as you don't get attacked in it by... most anything.
-
I would probably spend most of my time in it.. Really suites my hit and run style...
Its ugly but you cant tell unless you use external views..(of which it would have none right?)
