Good site.  Love diecast models.  My favorites are the Matchbox Collectibles 1/72 WWII fighters.

I have all but 3 of the Armour P38s.  I have a couple of Eagle International P51s as well.  It's a dangerous hobby once you start :)

Flying Mule has good service and prices.

Every once in a while I play nasty and send Guppy some new link
to Flying Mule aircraft :)

Eagles International has sensational 1/48 scale 51s and T-6s.  I also
like the Hobby Master 1/72nd scale stuff as the details are excellent
and you can fit more of them on your shelves. :aok

Here is my next buy:

Actually that isn't very realistic. To be a true Phantom it has to be
covered nose to tail with soot, grime and oily hydraulics  :D
I was just waiting for a halfway decent E model because that's the one
I worked on.

He does too!  That's why I've got a couple of 1/72nd scale Jugs on the shelf as well!  Bastage started me in this hobby long ago when he sent me an F4U!

Must resist F4 Phantoms....Must resist! :)

well . the soot, oil, grease were mostly on the bottom.

mostly.

Worked all the types in USAF inventory and the Luftwaffe version of the F-4, which we called 'the Pig' ..sometimes with affection, most times not.

The cool thing about the T-55 ..standing in it, you can pull two pins on either side engaging the turret ring, manually swing the turret, and drop the pins back in to fine tune your aiming .. barrel traverse time can be very fast .. would have been a terror in close combat.

Hands down the best are the 1/72 Dragon series.

The best in 1/72, is Century Wings. Granted they have a limited range of products, but they are a new company and the detail on their planes is outstanding.

I'm also very impressed with Hobby Master. I have examples in both 1/72, and 1/48. I feel that their F4 Phantom is better than even Corgi's. They also make an F9-F panther in 1/48, that is pretty sweet.

For 1/72, aircraft Century Wings, Corgi, Dragon, Hobby Master are all pretty good bets. I personally don't like IXO brand, and I wasn't real impressed with Witty Wings, of course I was comparing their F14, to Century Wings so there is that.

In the 1/48, scale I only have models from Hobby Master, and Franklin mint right now. When finances permit though I would like some models from Eagle international, Marushin, and Corgi makes some WWI birds in 1/48, that I would like to have.

Agree with most of what you said Sik.  I did find that Carousel 1 makes
some pretty fine 1/48th scale but they are a little pricey.  I once made the
mistake of getting a Franklin Mint He-111 in 1/48.  Great detail but it's
humongous!  :)  Thank God I didn't get one of their 4 engined 48th scale
bombers!

Met a guy in game once named "Jherne". He actually builds, paints and sells scale models as his job I believe (not just a hobby). Havent seen him in a bit but he sent me links to some of what he's made, (warships, planes) and they were awsome!

Also ive bought a few 1:48 and 1:72 scale planes from flying mule, good quality stuff their.

LOL Rino, I have the B17 A Bit O' Lace in 1/48 and it is huge. It's presently sitting on my kitchen table because it doesn't fit on any of the display shelves I have. Great model though.

SIK1 the Eagle International P51Bs are the best Mustangs out there in 1/48th.  The Corgi stuff is hit and miss from what I've seen.  Agreed on Hobby Master for 1/72nd.  The Dragon P47s are very nice in that scale too.

Dan I have heard good things about Eagle Internationals P51b's, and I look forward to getting one when I can.

Anyone here have any experience with Marushin? I have only seen them in pics. They look very detailed, they have models that no one else produces in 1/48, including a Betty bomber, but they are rather expensive.

I guess I'm just kind of a rebel.  Don't get me wrong I love all aircraft, but WW2 planes have always been my favorite.  As where other kids my age prefer the newer, better things found in modern warfare.

Now, back in the day when I was younger and before I read a lot about WW2 aircraft, the F4 was definitely my favorite jet  :D

SIK1,

IXO is more known for their car diecast's rather then their aircraft. I do agree that IXO planes are a little lacking.

I picked up a few IXO Junior planes, mostly because the price was right.  The panel lines are way too deeply engraved on some, but the Yak-9 and the Il-2 weren't too bad.  It's too bad their quality isn't better as they have a great selection of unusual types out.

Look on Ebay for the Jwing series, their 1/100 and are very very nice.

Dan I just purchased an Eagle Int. P51B, Don Gentile's "Shangri-La" it should be here next week sometime.

And it's all your fault!

I have that one, and I went so far as to have a custom one done for me in fictional 4th FG Markings of my own making.  So Gentile has a Wingman  :aok

I did the profile and they did the work.  Wife's name is Cathy.  Now if I could just get Armour to do custom 38s :)

They took the photos before they sent it.  It looks better in person but you get the idea

I've found that the best IXO planes in 1/72 are the Japanese ones.  For some reason, the Oscar, Tony, and N1K2 that I have are all excellent, while I have given away most of their USA models in favor of Hobby Master, Dragon, etc.  The LA-7 and Yak are not bad either.

I used to love the Matchbox 1/72 models, and have all of them (WWII) - I wish they would have continued the line . . .

It wasn't cheap, but I talked myself into it as I kind of doubt I'll ever own a real one :)

They even put the names of my crew chief and armorer on there, T/S B. "Broken" Partes and T/S F. "Frozen" Gunz  :)

The only problem now is that I now want more of them!  :x
