Yep Airacomet it is. RAM, it's a dummy propeller to make it look like a prop plane for security reasons. It was pretty 'hus-hus' project...

Yes, I heard that one of its test pilots liked to wear a gorilla suit and buzz other pilots training in the area (mostly P-51 trainees and their instructors).

Funny thing is, these trainees and their instructors would report sighting a plane that flew much faster than them, WITHOUT props...and being piloted by a gorilla!

Army psychologist convinced some pilots they had hallucinated that. Wasnt until the start of the Korean War that this was known to the press.

Funny eh?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

There were something wrong in that plane: TriCycle landing gear with prop in front of plane. As far as I know only P-39 and P-63 had a config like that and that isn't one of them. When you look its tail you can be sure it came from Bell. Also there had to be reason why it has a "Shoulder" wings which in this case is two jets installed under them in "Armpits". Also the shape of whole plane doesn't fit for a prop-plane.

Just logical conclusion:
Its not a prop-plane so its a jet.
Its manufacturer is Bell
Its from mid fourties
Rest was easy  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

well I recognized it because the jets are pretty evident under the cover, and the upper airframe form. But that propeller made me doubt.

In fact I thought that maybe it had a piston engine as mean of security (just as some Me262 prototypes carried in the nose) for the case the jets failed.

And I promise I didnt saw Staga's answer until AFTER I answered  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I thought the propeller would throw a few off the scent but obviously not. Of course you are all correct <S>
