Newegg (and others) are selling two different AMD Kuma 7750 chips. Aside from the selling price is there any known differences between AD7750WCGHBOX and AD775ZWCGHBOX? A google search on that topic returned "did not match any documents".

The Black Edition is designed to be over-clocked....a lot. I, myself am using the KUMA 7850 2.8Ghz Black Edition. I consider it one of the best Dual Core AMD CPU's. Right now I have it in a ASUS M4A79 MB OC'd to 3.0Ghz and I am more than satisfied with it. It is performing very well.
So if you are considering over-clocking...get the Black Edition. On another note: The factory supplied heatsink and fan doesn't do a bad job. Keeps my chip between 35°-42° on all load factors I use...then again having it in a Antec 900 case with 4 fans helps too..... :D
-
Ahhh, so the 775Z is the hotrodder's version of the 7750.
-
Yup...in that way yes.
There's not too much difference between the 7750 and 7850 Black edition. Also, if your MB can support AM3 Socket might consider the Athlon II dual core 3.0Ghz.... :aok

Thinking of soing something like this with WIN7RC 32 and perhaps adding memory and going to WIN7RC 64.

That would not be a bad setup. If you get the 64 bit version of Win7, you can go for more RAM. You'll like the KUMA!! :aok
Also, IMO, getting a PSU that is 650W or more is a good investment down the road. My PSU is a 650W Corsair.
Also, I am not a big fan of on board sound. I usually get a PCI 5.1 Channel PCI sound card and disable the on board sound. Relieves usage of the CPU.
-
Looks good to me. Have you selected a case?
-
Have the fiance's old full sized tower ATX case.
I'm thinking CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC
$159.99 -$60.00 Instant $99.99 for a power supply after reading about a lot of returns on the other one. :huh

I've had a lot of experience with Corsair PSU's. They are one of the best out there and well built. On another note, it has been my experience that large AT cases with at least 2 4" fans and 1 exhaust fan really helps in the cooling. I use the Antec 900 w/ 2 4" fans in the front for cooling the HD and helps facilitate cross flow over the ram and vidcard, plus a 4" exhaust fan in the back with a 8" fan on top....all with blue LCD lights.
There are other cases to choose from that would work well; the Antec 900 has plenty of room....besides if you opt for the Corsair PSU, you'll need room to tuck those unused power cables. Corsair PSU cables are long.
-
The case I have has spots for two 80mm fans on the back under the power supply and one on the side over the cpu. The interior is roughly 17" x 17" x 7.5" with four external 5.5" two 3.5" and four internal 3.5" slots.
-
they just released the new AM3 X2's they are like 20.00 more .. backwards compatible to AM2+ boards
-
I'd need to select a different (AM3/AM2+) motherboard instead of the one above which is (AM2+/AM2)?
-
no you can run a AM3 chip on a AM2+ motherboard.. ..
-
no you can run a AM3 chip on a AM2+ motherboard
Yes...this is true, but be wary. There have been known compatibility issues for some of the AM3 CPU's regarding AM2/AM2+ boards and certain chipsets. My ASUS board is regarded as AM2/AM2+ and is noted by ASUS that a AM3 socket chip can be used. However, there have been reports where AM3 chips had to be downgraded to AM2/AM2+ because of issues and stability. This of course does not mean that this is isolated with just ASUS boards. If you purchase from NewEgg read all the reviews of potential boards or CPU's and their compatibility parameters. Also, peruse http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/default.aspx. Tons of good info there....for everything.

the AM3 250 .. 3.0ghz clocked.. 87.00 with free shipping <---
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103681
the 7750 is 2.7ghz clock for 59.99 with free shipping its <-- have been some reports of unlocking cores as it was a Quad Core origanly
the 7850 is 2.8ghz clocked for 69.99 with free shipping
the kumas have 2 MB of L3 cache while the 250 has only 1 MB of L3 cache
X2 6000+ brishbane core is 89.99 its clocked at 3.1ghz <-- more expensive then then 250 and is a OEM and has no L3 cache
anyone one of kumas ore AM3 are a good choice IMHO.

Below is what I built. It is powered by a PC P&C Silencer 420. Sticks to 57-60fpm with all but self shadows turned on in Beta playing offline in carrier flak. No spinning clipboard or need for Optimizer patch. One notch of AA in the Aces display setup page.

what was your cost on the system?
-
Not too shabby..... :aok
-
I currently am using the 2.90 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Black Edition, and slightly overclocked it to 3.0 Ghz.
But my mouth is watering already to upgrade again now, thanks a lot, lol.
-
To reduce delay and stuttering, I recommend you check to see if there are any INF/driver files for your monitor and to get an actual sound card. It doesn't need to be an X-Fi Extreme Gamer Super-Uber Edition or anything, but a dedicated card will greatly reduce the risk of the game waiting for sounds and probably give a slight boost in top-end FPS.
-
what was your cost on the system?
$470 ($410 after rebates arrive) and a long day of OCD cable routing.
-
very nice.. not bad for a for that.. and your quad core capable if you ever want or need to upgrade
