Title: V1`s would be good addition
Post by: Buzzbait on January 19, 2001, 06:22:00 PM
S! all

I am going to suggest V1`s be incorporated.  Reasons :

1) It would provide a subject for an interesting Scenario, ie. the campaign against the V1 sites prior to and after D-Day.  The sites were attacked by combinations of B26; Typhoon and P-47 Squadrons escorted by Spitfires and were defended by the 109`s and 190`s of JG2 and JG26.  The V1`s themselves were intercepted after firing by the first Squadrons equipped with Tempests.
2) In the main arena the inclusion of V1 sites would provide another interesting target for the Jabos to take out.  The historical V1 sites were some of the most heavily defended by Flak of any German installations in France.  The V1`s, once fired would also be a target for CAPing fighters.  And not nessesarily an easy target.  At a speed of 400+mph at 8000 ft, if the intercepting fighter is not positioned correctly with altitude, it won`t make the intercept.  Plus the interceptor has to worry about getting too close, and having the bomb explode and kill him.  The V1`s themselves are not that accurate, and shouldn`t be capable of hitting an airfield, but the factories and cities could be good targets.  And with the heavy warhead in a V1, if they hit, will do serious damage.  They are also not easy for AA to hit when in an approach dive, hitting speeds of 450+mph, and being very small targets.  They would also be excellent devices for attacking amphibious bridgeheads, or fleets anchored off a landing zone, (when landing craft are incorporated, which hopefully can`t be long)  The biggest fear the Allies had when the V1`s started to fire, was that Hitler would turn them to hit the Normandy bridgehead.   The could have done serious damage to the land forces in the confined area, as well as the ships and port installations like the Mulberry artificial harbours.  They were much happier that he continued to insist they be targeted on London as revenge for the Allied Strategic bombing.

Why sure they are. After all we do get common use in combat, mass produced weapons don't we? Like the TA152, Ostwind, etc....

Like the U.S. RADAR fuzed A.A. shells :-)

Sorry, I just had to add that.
