Title: Firefox problem?
Post by: Spikes on July 08, 2009, 11:11:50 AM
Half the time I try to copy links into the bar and go to them I get something like this:
jar:file:///C:/Program%20Files%20%28x86%29/Mozilla%20Firefox/chrome/en-US.jar!/locale/browser-region/region.propertiesrapidshare.com

I don't know where it's getting the jar thingy from...

Thing is, I haven't lost internet connection and it's a perfectly copied address...I had to download a file in IE. :(

wouldn't the JAR thing be some type of java/javascript or java driver error you are receiving?

have you recently updated your java version or anything?

I googled it and yeah I think it has to do with java, but I haven't recently updated anything...not within the past couple weeks.

I googled it and yeah I think it has to do with java, but I haven't recently updated anything...not within the past couple weeks.

sometimes ( from past experiences with friends & family members PC's ) a simple easy fix is to download and install the current or maybe the 1 just before current version of java that is out.........

say you updated or installed a new web browser or you installed a game or program that uses java.........it could have overwrote your java settings and cause such a glitch..even though you did nothing you can think of in reference to your java version 1st hand........

I am 99% postive ( well that 1% unsure is very BIG   rofl ) that this will solve your delimma......

good luck & report to let us know how it works out......

edit: I just saw in another thread were you upgraded to FireFox 3.5................ did you do a upgrade or did you do a full install of 3.5 firefox?  this is prob where you are getting the glitch most likely.......... FireFox being nearly the same platform as old netscape, but with less bloatware makes me remember when Netscape would have java error issues when upgrading......... as I posted just download and install your java drivers again

I  myself am runing java 6 update 13...... there is a new update 14 out

It's doing this crap again...it only seems to be when I'm at my moms house on roadrunner.

Edit: I guess I'll have to manually update Java every couple weeks...is there anything roadrunner would do to affect it? At my dads I'd get it once or twice but down here it happened on every website...

heya Spikes, I myself am kind of like Skuzzy in, I do not allow java, java script, activex type content to run or auto install on my web browser/ pc....for the most part ( some sites for work, I have to "only allow this current session" type deal, is also set to pop p a flag/box in my software firewall as well ).......

but something that might help you/your Mom's PC is to go ahead and install and setup/allow java's autoupdater...... just a thought.

also, you may research the roadrunners internet service FAQ about this, may find the answer you looking for, incase they hace filters that block certian sites or block spam, etc......

good luck......

Would not letting java run on myspace/facebook and some other sites affect my browsing? I know they use java for uploading photos, but it's even happening on some sites like duckhuntingchat.com (first time it happened on that site, and it happened to be @ my moms housee on my laptop (Vista, ugh)

I do not do the facebook/myspace thingy, but I do know that both my daughters have problems when using firefox and trying to make things work on myspace  or facebook...like getting music plugins ( java type ) to play and other things.....yes it could have an effect on your duckhuntingchat site.....

may need to go in and do a thorough cleanup and reassignment of permissions......in Firefox preferences..might solve your problem.....

Under "Options" I only see Enable Java and Enable Javascript, both are checked...should I just uncheck Java?

Try reinstalling FF.
Back up any settings before hand if needed.

I normally put Chrome on computers that are slower than avg...for example an XP system with 512 ram, or something...Firefox is cpu intensive while Chrome isn't.

Flock is based off firefox but half the add ons aren't compatible with it.
