EVGA isn't ideal anymore.

I had a Ge 7600GTS from them, and when it fried I checked the warranty, and I had missed it expiring by about 6 months. I lasted about 6 months longer than most.

So I go to their customer support, register, log in, check their help forums.... Turns out the entire (very popular, I might add) 7600 line of cards EVGA was putting out only had a life span a little over 2 years. Cheap capacitors, faulty parts, basically bad manufacturing, ensured the cards would all die just outside of their warranty expiration. A few folks snuck in just barely under the wire (meaning their cards died even sooner) and got a replacement card, but it really looks like underhanded business tactics to me.

IMO avoid them. Unethical company from my experience. Go with another brand.

I used to think this too.   There are some older threads prior to building my new box, where I swore I'd never deal with them.

Backstory:   I had CyberpowerPC build me a box in the Spring of 2006.  I ordered a 7800GT and they installed a 7900GT at no additional charge.   It started to slowly get worse in the Winter of 2007.  I emailed (probably a headset jockey) eVGA about having this repaired, was ignored.

So I build this box and buy an eVGA 8800GTS KO to stick in it.   I have this Bad Samsung RAM 7900GT laying here and decide to call eVGA and give them the backstory.   I found an email copy of the Invoice and the gentleman told me to Register the card (2.5 years after I had it) and he'd personally "OK it".   I register online with him on the phone and submit.  He approved it and sent me the RMA labels.

I get this in return: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318&Tpk=512-P3-N801-AR (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318&Tpk=512-P3-N801-AR)

Returning a Card worth $0 and getting a then card worth $169 shows you eVGA Stands behind their customers.   I had no use for it and sent it to Bj229r (squaddie in Nazgul) at no cost to him.   If he has a problem with it, he sends it to me and I send it to eVGA for life.

I'm glad BaldEagl convinced me to "give eVGA one more shot".   I'll only recommend BFG Tech AFTER eVGA.

EVGA offers a lifetime warranty, but that's only if you register through their website.  BFG used to be no questions asked (no receipt etc) on their warranty.  I had a bad fan on a ti4600 back in 2005 and they replaced it once I RMA'd it.  They sent me a new 5900XT.  When I built my current PC I was going to go with BFG, but chose the EVGA because the 8800GTS 640mb was $30 cheaper.  I checked EVGA's warranty out before I bought it and I followed their registration steps.

The two times I dealt with BFG support I had exceptional service on the RMA process and on a separate matter with the 5900XT (they helped me diagnose a bad PSU).  Times change.  Just because I got good service from BFG 4 years ago doesn't mean I'd get the same.  Companies out source and customer service is rarely consistent no matter how hard you want to have faith in that one special company of yours.  YTD, I have not had any issues with my EVGA 8800 nor have I contacted any of their customer service.

Check any of the major "lifetime" companies and they all are requiring you to register their products now just like EVGA.  If you don't register, I think you get 2 years?

In connection with such Limited Lifetime or Ten Year Warranty, all BFG graphics cards introduced on or after February 21, 2008 must be registered on www.bfgtech.com within thirty (30) calendar days of the original purchase date to activate the limited lifetime warranty or limited ten (10) year warranty. Products not properly registered will be covered from the date of purchase by a two (2) year warranty in Europe, and a one (1) year limited warranty in the U.S. and other countries. Proper registration includes submitting proof of purchase to BFG.

Oh puleeese!  Do you really believe that some executive or mid-level manager at eVGA said "I know, lets use capacitors that die in exactly just over two years... haha... we'll get them those pesky customers!"

Companies outsource for parts and sometimes for manufacturing.  A problem such as this might take months or even years to surface.  Obviously there was a manufacturing defect in some of the parts used in these particular cards but there is no way in h*ll you can convince me that the company did it intentionally as you imply.  Why would a company do that?

I've been in marketing a good portion of my life.  Your job as a marketer is to continue to build market share and revenue and you can't do that by losing existing customers.  As a general rule of thumb it costs between 8-10 times as much to gain a new customer as it does to keep an existing one.  Companies that intentionally PO their customers on a regular basis generally aren't around for long.

A little over a year ago Samsung was having LCD display panals built to their specs by three different manufacturers.  The panals being built by one of these companies were clearly undergoing a manufacturing problem and eveyone getting that particular panal was PO'd.  In contrast the people getting the other two panals were giving those LCD's only the highest ratings.  Did Samsung do that intentionally too so they could PO 1/3 of their customers?  I say unlikely.

I've had several eVGA video cards and am currently running an eVGA motherboard as well.  In my experience they have been nothing but exemplary.  I'm still running my eVGA GeForce MX-440SE in my old Dell after about ten years.  I finally had to replace the fan on it a couple of months ago because it was making a groaning noise at start-up but what would you expect after that long.  I also admit that my motherboard had a graphic anomoly when I got it but eVGA and Nvidia responded quickly to their customers with a BIOS update that rectified the problem.

It's your choice to buy from whom you want but grow up.  You obviously know nothing of the real world.

The 512's are typically faster, not to mention the Total System Memory from usage in 32 bit XP (we don't know what OS you are using).

The 1GB Eco GT runs at 550Mhz Clock (112 Stream Processors).   The GTX linked in this thread is 675Mhz (128 Stream Processors).   The GTX is the Superior card.

Do you have a power-supply up to the job of feeding that card? These cards need a lot of power.

Eagl, do I really believe a reputable company will release products with known shortcomings, known faults, just for a steady income on their part?

HELL yes. It's the way things are done now. 100% known fatal flaws are overlooked in everything from operating systems (Vista), to missile defense systems (can't actually hit a target) to cars (known gas tank ruptures in side impacts).

It's 100% the american way, unfortunately. So yes, I definitely believe somebody somewhere brought this up, and they collectively decided (at the corporate level) to make money off of it nonetheless.

EDIT: For a company that offers lifetime warranties, stay away from anything that "only" has a 1 or 2 year warranty. If it says lifetime, you may have much better luck with it. Going off the testimonial posted above my reply, they apparently do have decent support, it just depends on the card in question.

My PNY card came with a molex to 6-pin adapter... actually has two molex connecters on one end, and a six pin on the other.  That way you can use two separate molex circuits and split the load among the different circuits in the PS.  Of course mine had a six pin connector so I didn't have to use the adapter.  I don't know if the EVGA version comes with the adapter or not, but as long as your PS meets the power requirements, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Very seldom have I ever had issues with an eVGA card..  When there are issues, they work very hard to accommodate to you..  At least that is my experience..  I will always use them until I am no longer satisfied with how they handle things..

I was just talking to one of my old buddies who has the same EVGA card I do (8800 GTS 640mb).  He never registered it and it was beyond the 2 year standard warranty.  He told me last night that they were going to RMA the card for him after they went back and forth a bit.  Apparently a new set of Nvidia drivers gave him real problems (black lines on the sides etc).

There is not a computer maker out there that does not.  BIOS updates for instance, look at the notes for an update FIX: yada yada yada yada (usually listed several times.  Software companies do it too, with updates FIXED Know Bug etc etc,  Driver Updates as the most common FIX of a problem.  Yes companies do release software/hardware/systems with problems and don't think twice about doing so.  EVGA released the X58 knowing BIOS problems, but they also released 3 BIOS updates within 30 days before the board got a bad rep.

What Power Supply do you have and what is the +12V rail rated at?

You can wish of new Video Cards, but you NEED A Power Supply that can handle all aspects of your PC first and FOREMOST.
