Formation assembly ships didn't fly combat. They were used to do just that, help the combat birds form up. The Formation Assembly ships were 'war weary' bombers that were no longer used on Ops.

There was one exception on a maximum effort raid during the Battle of the Bulge time, but that's it. It wasn't that one.

There is some unusual schemes though even with B17's.

Larry wasn't suggesting it be skinned. It was in reference to a photo he and I were talking about.
