Title: changed the disco for perk plane settings
Post by: Rich46yo on July 10, 2009, 10:58:06 PM
We just had a massive disco where several of us lost a bunch of perks cause we got Das Boot when in 262s.

Consider this a whine. That really sucks! Why cant AH change the settings so's that if your in a undamaged perk plane you dont lose your perks when you disco. Most of all a mass disco where obviously it was caused by the server.

I just think that, as is, its just not fair.

And make disco's where they don't count as 1/3 of a death like they do now.  :furious  Make it where they don't affect you in any way.

Actually I think they are 1/2 a death.

Correct, you lose 1/2 on a disco.

Maybe not undamaged, but undamaged with no enemies in the sector. I've discoed at 0 throttle before taking off. I think a 262 with no enemies in sector, at 0 throttle, stopped on a friendly runway with no damage should NOT loose point to a disco.

The issue is that if discos didn't count at all and you kept your perks, people would be yanking cables the second they noticed someone falling in behind them.

I didnt think of that. Still, like with side switching to cheat, I'd say it would be a very, very small percentage of players who would do that. Theres no reason to penalize the majority due to the actions of a few.

I lost two Tigers to discos the other night. Odd thing was it was the only two discos I had. Good thing I have enough perks to up another 50 or so.  :D

I'd like to keep the system as it is, but maybe have a "film review" system in place, where if you were filming at the time of the disco you could submit film and if it is a legit disco, you get perks refunded.

Some may say that this would take too much time for the HT staff, and perhaps it might...I don't know how many of those films would be sent in per day, but really how long would it take a staffer to watch ~10 seconds of pre disco film from a few people a week? If more than that submit, how about outsource the work to a trusted member of the community, who reviews the films and validates perk reimbursement. HTC could rotate this job for a month and pay that person's monthly fee. Seems pretty fair for volunteering to review a few films.

With a few thousand player online per day it would probably amount to way more time than just that. Make it just 10 films per day... open mail, load film, watch it, decide if it's a redeemable disco, log into the data base & change perks.

A huge waste of time. Not worth the effort at all.

If you're that worried about losing your perks you simply shouldn't be flying perk planes.  You're certainly not earning any perks worth mentioning in a perk plane.

Films wouldn't make a difference. To the game, a full disco is a full disco, whether connection to the server was severed by a failed routing system or you yanking on the CAT5. Even in the case of a "trickling disco" where your packet loss slowly rises until you're dumped, I'm sure there's probably some sort of program to emulate that out there. No reason to encourage it.
