Title: bloody discos!
Post by: kcfarris on July 10, 2009, 11:32:12 PM
 :huh  :furious :cry

I was assigned to an advanced scouting group with 5 other zeros. We were sent ahead of our main group to find the enemy. The plan was good one and we thought we'd thought of everything. Then half of us were discoed, along with our squad leader, approximately 20 seconds before contacting the enemy! To painful to say what happened 20 seconds after that. I wish I could have been discoed too, at least they got to re-up. DANG IT TO GOSH DARN HECK!

It wasn't just you, we lost quite a few pilots inbound to 15 something something, we had about half our main force left by the time we met the forward defenders.

I wonder how the Allies were affected by the disco menace?

Was up with my squad mates and boom we lost 1/2 our numbers , then got waxed by fighters hard to defend in D3A Vals when you go from 8 to 4 in a split second , but things happen I guess . CIC was our squad CO and even he got discoed .

IMO they should have stopped the FSO and started over. 353rd had a few discod me being on of them and when I got back on our CV was already under attack. By the time I got ahold of a CM our CV was dead and I was unable to reup.

Crazy as it may sound you might want to look at this as operational loss. In RL many aircraft had to abort or were lost because of mechanical failures or operational accidents. We are forgiven for discos and accidents in the first 1/2 hour of a frame which I think is fair but there is no doubt that it effects a missions outcome. It's Fog of War and therefore acceptable IMO  :salute

The ALLIES in general fared better to the disco gods because we could re up and defend in place.  The IJN disco's had their attacking strength degraded and had no chance of catching up.

I don't know if that played an issue at C26 or not.  in the end C26 remained untouched and 2 IJN attacked were destroyed to the man.

As teh Set-up and host CM, I was also a casualty of the mass disco.
Came back, and I knew it wasn't going to be pretty.
Nice thing about FSO's?
You guy's are getting real good at understanding that these things can and do happen from time to time.
<<S>> to you all for your patience and understanding.
