Title: Tweaking TrackIR(6axis question)
Post by: Qrsu on July 11, 2009, 01:33:42 PM
Hey guys,

just wondering if anyone knows of a way (if there is a way) to disable to X/Y/Z axis while looking forward, while retaining them when scanning the six view? I am torn between keeping them enabled or disabling them completely as I find it really detriments my gunnery BUT I love the ability to lean left or right when checking my six.

Shot in the dark, but any help would be appreciated.  :salute

Well, have you tried adjusting the sliders so that they have a wider flat low area in the middle?  That way you'd have to move your head more to enguage those axes.  They wouldn't affect your gunnery but when you move your head to start looking back they would come into play.  You might have to have the curves rise fairly sharply after the "deadband" area you've created, but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work.

Also, after a bit you should start to get a feel for the nose of the plane and convergance point and find that you really don't need the sight anymore.  It took me a couple of months to get comfortable shooting with trackir (which is saying something as I've only been on ah for 7 months) but I did get adjusted and it's not a problem anymore at all.

Just my .02.  I still do a bit of tweaking on my profile now and then, but I like it quite a bit.  Just try making one small change at a time and give yourself a few days to get used to it, then change again till you get what you're looking for.

IR worth getting?

Oh yeah, a few minor speed bumps along the way might have you regretting it at first but after a while you get used to it just like anything else. When you have it working to your liking you have unlimited freedom of view around your cockpit and a few extra switches/buttons on your HOTAS.  :)

Oh yeah, I love it and don't ever plan to go back to hat switch views.  It does take a bit of getting used to, and the gunnery requires an adjustment too, but it's all well worth it.

I have the on/off toggle for my TrackIR mapped to one button on my throttle, and the "center" TrackIR command mapped to another.  And I use them both, fairly often.  YMMV.

I have my TIR profile set with a little deadband in the middle just so my normal forward view doesn't sway with every tiny head movement.  Otherwise I have full range of in-game head movement with very little real-life head movement.  I have a 24" widescreen and sit about 3' from it.  To look 185 degrees I only have to point my cranium at the edge of my monitor.

I have the TIR toggle and center mapped to my keyboard as well, but still have the hat views active on my throttle.  When I want to concentrate on a shot, I just use my forward hat view, which "locks" my view and can still use TIR to fine-tune my sight if needed.  No need to toggle TIR off, the hat switch will overide the main TIR input but still allow some small head movement.

I have it and and now will log off if it's not on or working. I can no longer even fly with Hat switches. It's thest enhancement to fligh simulators I have ever experienced. The only way to top it would be to have a High resolution Head mounted display with head tracking (They cost around $30K USD). It's the best $200.00 dollars I have ever spent!!!

I set deadband for every axis. Used to use aggressive on them and couldn't hit anything.
I also have center on a button on the stick. If in a tank I switch to
mode 2, center up, and turn off tir so I can use zoom better in the main gun sight.
Could never play a flight sim without it now.
