Title: Typhoon Question for Pyro
Post by: funked on March 04, 2001, 07:07:00 PM
By the bubble canopy it is clear that our Typhoon is a very late Ib.

I am wondering what engine is used in the flight model.  Sabre II, IIa, IIb, IIc, or IV?

I thought the Sabre IV was a dud engine, only used on the Tempest I prototype(HM 599)? Mmmm, that plane did 466mph though.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

If I can stick a question in as well, will the armament option of 4 rockets and drop tanks be introduced for the Typhoon and/or Tempest?

AFAIK Nashwan Tempest never actually used rockets in WWII...

Dont recall clearly where but some time ago I read that what they didnt use was the rockets wich needed no rails (Even when they were disponible before the war's end), but that they used the ones wich needed rails (like the ones on the Typhoon).

As I said, cant recall the source, sorry  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

I think R4Ms right. There is a very good sight on the Tempest at http://user.tninet.se/~ytm843e/tempest.htm (http://user.tninet.se/~ytm843e/tempest.htm)
and it says the Tempest was cleared to use zero launch length rockets, but they weren't used operationaly during the war. It also has an illustration of zero length and rail mounted rockets, and the caption says "zero length rocket rails post war only - wartime rocket rails"
It seems to say they were used from rails during the war.
Whether or not they were used however, I don't think they should be kept off the Tempest in AH. Afterall the Spit F IX has them, even though it's real life counterpart never did.
Back to my original question, is the option of  rockets and drop tanks going to be introduced for the Tempest and/or Typhoon?

I think you will have to find evidence that 4 rockets and DT's wasn't a field modification to get it included. Otherwise RAM gets to pull out his cowl guns.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

PS: I doubt any real Spitfire F.IX used a captured German 300 litre drop tank either...  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

The Typhoon had a pylon for bomb or drop tank under the inboard cannon. The rocket rails also began there, but moved outwards. The outer 2 rocket rails are easily clear of the bomb/tank.
Any ordinance fitted to an aircraft is a field modification. Planes do not arrive from the factory with bombs or rockets attached. The only "modification" needed would be to attach the tank and attach 2 of the rockets. It requires no more effort or adaption than attaching all rockets.
It is the same option fitted to real life US fighters. They have the option in AH, why not the Tiffie?
