'slotted leading edge'
... and these too?? ...

A - normal split flaps
B - 109 slotted trailing edge flap

I do not know if the effects of these small devices are properly modelled in or not, but it sure doesn't "look" like it..
Graphical representation just for better realistic looks, please.... how'zbout it?
-
Slats are modelled in the FM, just not graphically represented.
I personally don't feel that there is a need to visually model them. I don't think its worth the development time.

They arent just for looks..they are modeled in WW2online and I use them to judge my speed..I can even tell which wing is fixing to stall because the sound is very good in that game..BTW, They G10 is my fav plane..I wonder if they had them on all models of 109's..I do agree however that it may be hard to model that visually..And one more thing, Kweassa<<<Stop shooting me down pls
:D

Hmm, now there's conflicting information. Does anyone know exactly how the automatic slots operated? What moved them and what commanded their deployment and retraction?
I just asked the very same question over on PPRuNe and got a quite different answer (http://www.pprune.org/cgibin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=002414) than what the top illustration seems to indicate.

Gravity vs wind pressure :D
-
As far as I remember they operate in the very same fashion the stall horn works - difference in air pressure.
In a pre-stall wing the pressure on the upper surface is much lower and the slats popping out improving low speed performance. As the speed increases the pressure evens out and they retract. They were automatically deployed/retracted on most planes that used them.

Also read that it was an unpleasant surprise for novice pilots to have 'um plop out during dogfights.
-
Santa, especially since they apparently had a habit of extending asymetrically.
Hmm, the thought just struck me. The top picture might be of what they did to prevent that from happening rather of what made them move. Here's a theory: Slots open or close as the stagnation point moves across them and the cogwheels make sure that they do so symmetrically? Might just of figured it all out now. And that is BEFORE my coffee! :)

Kweassa or anyone else..Were can I get such a detailed model of aircraft..
-
Friend Skiiwa, er..
When'd I ever shoot you down? :D
Anyways, it'll help to know 90% of people I shoot down(which is very few in numbers anyway), it is pure luck I'm betting you probably shot me down like 4~5 times more than I shot you. So quit whinin' :D
Anyways, the pics I got from a Korean site. I asked them and they told me that's from 'Tamiya', Japanese plastic model compay. I think the scale is 1:48, but don't know for sure. (Maybe it is 1:75, the scales are quite confusing to judge from pics)

Slats in the 109 pop out automatically when the lift of the wing sufficiently changes to literally "push" them out. Basically, they avert a stall of the wing.
-
Messerschmitt liked his slats. The 109 and 110 had them in front of the ailerons, and the 262 slats ran along the entire leading edge of the wing.
The La-5FN and La-7 also had slats on the outer half of the wings.
Other planes with leading edge slats:
SB2C(opened when landing gear dropped)
S.M.79
Swordfish
The SBD Dauntless had fixed slots in the outer part of the wing.

Kweassa <<U didnt, I believe..but U and your wingmans good teamwork did..I think his name was Mitsu or somthing..U were in N1k and he was in Ki-61 I think..First time I ever fought Ki-61..wasnt sure what it did well do I tried a 500mph dive to the deck in my 109g-10(I know they dont dive well but trim works well to bring ya out) to see if ya'll would be able to follow. When I finally stopped blacking out I looked back and there both of ya were. Like at my d400 or so..I keep yall off me with som jinking then I started flashbacks of that great movie topgun were he drops his speed really fast and gets on the aggressors 6..so I tried it  Can a 109-g10 outrun a N1k or Ki-61 on the deck?..Ki-61 Im pretty sure but...I went after yall about 4 times and got one kill..I cant remember if It was MItsu or who but I think I got a 1 ping kill, (Lucky me) he was in a N1k though..
Later all

Swordfish had Leading edge slots??? wasnt that I cloth coverd biplane?I was Kinda hopeing the Model in the picture was preassembled :) I hate building models...I always get tired of it about half way through and slap them together then I go get some model rocket engines and see how a rocket powered B17 will fly :D
-
hih i have done same thing skiiwa :)
-
I'm pretty sure that not all 109's had them. I read that they got smaller and smaller on later models, and were eventually eliminated. The early F-86 models also had automatic leading edge slots, but they also got eliminated in later models.
